Balancing Stability and Business Implications Business Implications
The 2025 policy comes with bold measures that have far reaching implications to the country’s economy and business community. They are now allowed to retain 70% of foreign earnings, down from 75%, with 30% to be sent to the RBZ to increase the circulation of ZiG, which could affect the ability of exporters to access USD for foreign obligations. To help mitigate this, the US Dollar Denominated Deposit Facility (USDDDF) allows exporters to invest a portion of their forex in interest-bearing deposits, although this could tie up liquidity. Reform measures in the interbank forex market including scrapping the 5% margin allowed for trading are aimed at improving liquidity and efficiency but may bring volatility. Interest rates are high at 35%. Statutory reserve requirement for demand deposits is 30%. These help to control inflation but may limit availability of credit and expansion of business.
