🚚 Cass Freight Index: Freight Spending Freight spending increased 9.1% vs. July 2025, but growth slowed from 11.2% in June. 📉 Compared with June, spending fell 2.2% in July, mainly because less freight was moved. Rates increased slightly, but not enough to offset the decline in shipment volumes. Bottom line: Companies are spending more on freight than a year ago, but freight activity itself remains weak.

🚛 Truckload Rates Strengthen The Cass Truckload Linehaul Index rose 2.3% MoM in July and 8.6% YoY. 📈 After declining in June, rates are now picking up, with spot market activity suggesting further increases ahead. Bottom line: Truckload rates are moving higher.

🚚 Cass Freight Index: Freight Volumes Remain Weak The Cass Freight Index shipments component fell 4.8% YoY in July, following a 4.1% decline in June. On a seasonally adjusted basis, shipments dropped 2.2% MoM. The normal seasonal trend suggests shipments could fall another ~3% YoY in August. Bottom line: Freight demand remains soft, especially in trucking.
