The Indian delegation at the Swiss summit on Ukraine has dissociated itself from the joint communique and any other final decisions of the ongoing conference.
Addressing the conference in Burgenstock, Switzerland, Indian External Affairs Ministry secretary for the West Pavan Kapoor said the “bringing together all stakeholders” including “the two parties to the conflict” — Russia and Ukraine — was needed to “achieve lasting peace.”
🕊 “In our view, only those options acceptable to both parties can lead to an abiding peace,” the former ambassador to Moscow told the summit.

The question is often followed with the point that neither Biden nor Trump could hold a position governing the lowest level township, prefecture or village in China 🇨🇳.

11 Muted mikes and no live audience: what to expect from first Biden-Trump 2024 campaign debate
White House incumbent Joe Biden and ex-POTUS Donald Trump are scheduled to have their first in-person debate of the 2024 presidential campaign on June 27.
Here’s what to know about the first Biden-Trump face off:
🌏 The June 27 live debate will be hosted by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash at CNN’s studio in Atlanta; the September event will be broadcast by ABC.
🌏 Unlike previous election debates, there won’t be a live audience present, ostensibly to avoid disruptions. Reports claim the request for an empty TV studio came from the Biden team.
🌏 Trump and Biden will stand at lecterns on stage, with their positions determined by a coin flip. All they can take with them is a pen, a notepad, and a bottle of water.
🌏 Don’t expect any opening statements from the candidates – only a two-minute closing statement from each one.
🌏 After being asked a question, each candidate will have two minutes to reply. One-minute rebuttals and responses to the rebuttals will follow. Another minute can be used at the discretion of the moderators.
🌏 Red lights will flash to remind the candidates that they have five seconds left to respond. When the time has run out, the lights will turn solid red.
🌏 The candidates’ microphones will be muted during the debate except for when it is their turn to speak. The mikes can be cut off if they speak out of turn.
🌏 In a new feature, two commercial breaks from corporate sponsors will be injected into the 90 minutes of debate time. Campaign staff will not be allowed to interact with their candidate during the breaks.

13 US tried to provoke China into attacking Taiwan, Xi reportedly told von der Leyen
Chinese President Xi Jinping warned European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen about attempts by Washington to provoke Beijing into attacking Taiwan, the Financial Times reported.
China’s president delivered the cautionary message in April 2023 both to von der Leyen and to officials in his own country, according to insiders.
The gist of Xi’s warning was reportedly that the Biden administration was trying to goad the People's Republic of China (PRC) into invading Taiwan, but the Chinese leader would not be taken in that easily.
The FT report comes amid heightened US-China tensions. Beijing has referred to the Taiwan issue as a "red line" that must not be crossed in its relations with Washington. China has also urged the US not to send wrong signals to Taiwanese separatists.
However, while White House officials make public claims about continuing to support the one China policy, in effect they have been stoking tensions by embarking upon massive joint drills in the region and funneling weapons packages to Taiwan.

15 🥴 British army delays provision of new badges due to paranoia over Chinese spying
The British military has delayed the provision of new decorative badges to servicemembers over concerns Chinese manufacturers could have implanted them with spying devices.
“The rollout of British military badges redesigned for the accession of King Charles has been delayed over fears the new insignia could be made in China and risk allowing the Beijing authorities to insert tracking devices,” reported a British newspaper.
The Financial Times cited an unnamed senior UK defense official who warned the badges could be embedded with GPS transmitters.
The British armed forces have opted to delay the rollout while they consider how to respond to the concerns since the UK does not possess similar manufacturing capability to produce the cloth and metal trinkets.
“The issue encapsulates a broader confusion among western countries about whether to treat China, the world’s second-biggest economy, as a friendly trading partner or an implacable foe,” the newspaper noted, demonstrating the paranoid fear of leaders of the country that at one point in time controlled large swathes of the world.
China has never invaded British territory. Meanwhile, the UK invaded and colonized the Chinese city of Hong Kong in 1841, only finally relinquishing its colonial grip in 1997.

16 The Ukrainian-owned cargo ship Verbena which was attacked by the Houthis on June 13 sank in the Gulf of Aden, Yemen's Ansar Allah movement said in a statement.
"The Verbena ship sank in the Gulf of Aden after being attacked by several missiles," Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree announced.
On Thursday, the Houthis said that they attacked three vessels in the Red and Arabian Seas in the past 24 hours using ballistic missiles and drones. Verbena caught fire after the strike.
The spokesman also added that the Tutor ship, which was attacked by the Houthis in the Red Sea, could begin to sink in the coming hours.
The US Central Command said that the crew of Verbena was evacuated from the ship due to fire and inability to extinguish it.

18 French court bans Israeli companies from participating in military expo in Paris - reports
A French court ordered Coges, the organizer of the Eurosatory military exhibition, to ban Israeli companies and anyone who could act as their intermediaries from participating in the exhibition, which starts on Monday, Le Parisien newspaper reported.
The report said that the French Defense Ministry also approached Coges to ban the participation of Israeli military companies due to suspicions of their involvement in committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip. Coges responded that the Israeli stand, which was expected to host 74 military enterprises, was removed.
However, the Palestine solidarity association considered the organizers' measures insufficient and went to court, noting that the absence of a stand does not guarantee that Israeli defense companies will not be present at the exhibition, the report read.
The Eurosatory exhibition, which takes place every two years, will be held from June 17-21.

20 🇨🇴 Colombian President Gustavo Petro said that he had changed his mind about participating in a Swiss-hosted summit on Ukraine because it is not a "free forum" for seeking peace between Moscow and Kiev.

26 Who in Ukraine can negotiate with Russia?
While Volodymyr Zelensky cannot be considered the legitimate president of Ukraine since his term of office ended last month without his re-election, that does not necessarily make negotiations between Moscow and Kiev impossible.
During an interview on YouTube current affairs podcast Judging Freedom, former CIA analyst Larry Johnson told host Judge Andrew Napolitano that Russian President Vladimir Putin may be willing to “sit down with an appropriate Ukrainian authority.”
According to Johnson, Kiev could be represented by the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament or by current Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky.

30 Could seismic calamity be brewing near Washington state coast?
A potentially massive geological disaster that lurks near the US west coast has been thrust into the spotlight thanks to a new study published in Science Advances journal earlier this month.
The authors of the new paper probed the secrets of the Cascadia subduction zone, a fault line that runs for some 960 kilometers off the Pacific coast of North America, and which is capable of producing extremely powerful — magnitude 9.0 and greater — earthquakes and tsunamis.
By comparison, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake off the coast of Japan in 2011 produced the tsunami that killed thousands and triggered one of the worst nuclear disasters in history at the Fukushima plant.
The study found that the fault line is divided into four segments, with one of them — which runs from southern Vancouver Island along the coast of Washington state almost to the Washington-Oregon border — appearing to be the most seismically-dangerous section.
Based on observations of tectonic plate “interface geometry and properties,” the researchers postulated that “the south Vancouver Island through Washington region has greater potential than other sections of the margin for the largest earthquake ruptures.”
The fact that seafloor in that area is “subducting under the continental crust at a shallow angle” may imply that the fault extends under the Olympic Peninsula, which “might magnify any shaking on land” if an earthquake does occur, a news release by the Columbia Climate School notes.
💬 “It requires a lot more study, but for places like Tacoma and Seattle, it could mean the difference between alarming and catastrophic,” said Harold Tobin, geophysicist at the University of Washington and co-author of the study. However, the last major earthquake caused by the Cascadia subduction zone took place over three hundred years ago in 1700.

35 🇷🇺🕊Putin's peace proposals on Ukraine are ‘golden opportunity’ and ‘lifeline’
Ukraine should accept Putin's peace preconditions to avoid worsening its position, Persio Gloria de Paula, an expert at the Naval War College in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, told Sputnik.
Given Ukraine's losses in hardware and personnel, Russia’s proposal throws down the gauntlet to the Kiev regime and its sponsors ahead of the peace summit in Switzerland, according to the pundit.
“This calls into question the goals and effectiveness of a summit which is not attended by all the sides involved,” he said.
The conditions laid out by President Putin to resolve the Ukraine conflict are “a golden opportunity both for Kiev and its European sponsors to begin negotiations,” Iranian political scientist Emad Abshenas told Sputnik.
He noted that key terms such as a neutral, non-nuclear status for Ukraine and its demilitarization had been broadly agreed upon during the Istanbul negotiations in 2022, but Kiev rejected that deal on the West’s orders.
Ukraine's Western patrons are likely to block any acceptance of Russia’s peace initiatives this time too. “The West will continue to behave like a spoilt child who does not understand the consequences of his actions, and acts solely based on his own selfish goals," said Ünver Sel, chairman of the Federation of Crimean Tatar culture societies of Turkiye.
Putin is “throwing Europe a lifeline,” agreed Lebanese international relations analyst Mohammad Saifuddin. The Russian president’s initiative is “feasible and important for all parties, especially for Europeans who are tired of supporting Ukraine,” he noted, adding that it “may find a response in Ukrainian society before it is supported by their politicians.”
The only way to resolve the Ukraine conflict is through Russia's new peace proposal, Iranian political scientist Ruhollah Moddaber believes.
"As Putin noted, if the West fails to consider this sole means of resolving the conflict, then it will be responsible for the continued bloodshed,” he said.

Putin's Press Secretary, Dmitry Peskov, on negotiations with Ukraine:
🌏 Zelensky is not the person with whom agreements on Ukraine can be formalised in writing; de jure, it would be illegitimate.
🌏 Let's see if Zelensky is ready to do everything possible to not worsen the situation further.
🌏 Putin does not reject the possibility of negotiations with Ukraine, noting that there are legitimate authorities there.
🌏 The current dynamics on the front lines demonstrate that the situation will only deteriorate further for Ukrainians.
🌏 Agreements on Ukraine are the result of complex expert negotiations, balancing interests and considering realities, and it will be the same this time.
🌏 A politician who prioritises the interests of the homeland over his own would consider such peace initiatives from Putin.
🌏 Putin's peace initiatives are made with consideration of realities on the ground.
🌏 Developing a security guarantee system is difficult, but if the Kiev regime shows sobriety, it should be done.

When I go to China 🇨🇳, a common question I get asked is: Why is it that Americans must choose between two horrible political figures in Biden and Trump?
The question is often followed with the point that neither Biden nor Trump could hold a position governing the lowest level township, prefecture or village in China 🇨🇳.
Why? Because they haven’t served the people. They’ve served their own self-interests, and certainly elites. But to be a leader in China, you must serve the people, and serve them for a LONG TIME.
Now look at Xi Jinping’s political career. Does this look like a leader that can be outmaneuvered or outsmarted by two warmongers, one of whom is senile and the other a convicted criminal?
The answer is an easy no. China 🇨🇳 is in good hands, while the U.S. empire is being strangled by incompetence and diligent service to the most corrupt forces on the planet.
