Monster Energy HISTORY Unbound Energy originated around 2004 at Hansen Natural Corp. (the company that was later renamed Monster Beverage Corp.). Strategy and Positioning * The "Value" / Budget option: Monster Energy was the premium flagship. Unbound was launched as an affordable alternative to serve the lower end of the market and prevent cheaper brands from gaining ground. * Brand Identity: Hansen did not want to associate Monster with a budget drink.
