Pulses

✅Pulses are a very rich source of protein. These are leguminous crops, which increase the natural fertility of the soil through nitrogen fixation. ✅ India is the largest producer (25% of global production), consumer (27% of world consumption) and importer (14%) of pulses in the world. ✅Pulses account for about 20% of the area under food grains and contribute about 7-10% of the total food grain production in the country. ✅Top 5 pulses producing states 🔸Madhya Pradesh, 🔸Maharashtra, 🔸 Rajasthan 🔸Uttar Pradesh 🔸Karnataka ✅ Chickpea is the most prominent pulse with a share of about 40% in the total production. It is followed by Tuar/Arhar (15 to 20%) and Urad and Moong (each about 8-10%).

India's first snow leopard census

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav released the snow leopard population estimate for the first time in India during the National Wildlife Board meeting in New Delhi. ✅The report said that 718 snow leopards are present in India, with the highest number of 477 in Ladakh, followed by Uttarakhand (124), Himachal Pradesh (51), Arunachal Pradesh (36), Sikkim (21) and Jammu and Kashmir (9). Ladakh > Uttarakhand > Himachal > Arunachal > Sikkim > Jammu and Kashmir ✅ The Wildlife Institute of India is the national coordinator for the snow leopard population estimation programme.
