According to the report, Norway now supplies about 44% of Germany’s imported gas, making it by far the country’s largest supplier since Russian deliveries ended. The paper notes that imported gas at Germany’s border cost about €12 per megawatt-hour in 2020, when most supplies came from Russia under long-term contracts. By contrast, the European benchmark price stood at around €60/MWh this week, compared with roughly €31/MWh before the Iran conflict escalated.
Berliner Zeitung adds that this is the cheaper long-term Russian contracts have disappeared and Western Europe now relies far more on global LNG markets, where prices are much more sensitive to geopolitical disruptions.

According to figures published by the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice this week, Ukraine recorded 73,292 births and 259,853 deaths in the first half of 2026.
