ጾታዊ ጥቃት ለኤች አይ ቪ እና በግብረስጋ ግንኙነት ለሚተላለፉ ሌሎች በሽታዎች ከሚያጋልጡ መንስኤዎች ውስጥ አንዱ ነው። እንደ ተባበሩት መንግስታት ድርጅት የኤድስ ፕሮግራም (UNAIDS) መረጃ፣ እ.ኤ.አ በ2021 ከሳህራ በታች ያሉ የአፍሪካ አገራት ውስጥ በኤች አይ ቪ ከተያዙት አዲስ ሰዎች፣ 63 ፐርሰንቱ የሚሆኑት ሴቶችና ልጃገረዶች ሆነው ሳለ ጾታዊ ጥቃት ደግሞ ሴቶችና ልጃገረዶች በኤች አይ ቪ የመያዝ እድል ከሚያባብሱ ነገሮች ውስጥ አንዱ መሆኑ አሳሳቢ ያደርገዋል። ጾታዊ ጥቃትን በመከላከል ብዙ ሴቶችና ልጃገረዶችን ከኤች አይ ቪ እና በግብረስጋ ግንኙነት ከሚተላለፉ ሌሎች በሽታዎች መከላከል እንችላለን። Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is among the risk factors for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. #GBV fuels the risk of girls and women getting infected, while girls and women already account for 63% of all new HIV infections in sub-Saharan Africa in 2021 (UNAIDS data).
