| 3 | Why does gold cost more here than the dollar price says?
You check the international price. Gold is at $2,650 an ounce. You walk into a dealer or check the local app. The price is higher. Sometimes a lot higher.
That gap is called the premium. It's what you pay above the global spot price to actually get the gold in your hands.
And when dollars are hard to get, that premium jumps.
Here's why. Gold is priced globally in dollars. To bring it into the country, someone has to buy it with dollars. If dollars are scarce or expensive — official rate says one thing, street rate says another — the importer pays more to get those dollars. That cost gets passed straight to you.
Quick example:
International price: $2,650 per ounce. Let's say the official exchange rate makes that 10,000 in local currency. But the dealer can't get dollars at the official rate. They pay the parallel rate, which pushes the real cost to 11,500. Add import duty, dealer margin, and transport. You pay 12,200.
That extra 2,200? That's the premium.
It gets wider when currency weakens fast or when the central bank rations dollars. It shrinks when forex flows freely.
You can't avoid the premium. But understanding it stops you thinking the dealer is just ripping you off. Sometimes they are. Often they're just passing on the true cost of moving gold across a hard border.
Check premiums before you buy. Compare a few dealers. Know what normal looks like.

| 14 | Why did gold fall to an eight-week low, then bounce?
Gold is trading around $4,170 this Wednesday morning, after rebounding from an eight-week low near $4,180
that touched its lowest level since August 5.
The drop came from two forces working together.
The 10-year US Treasury yield climbed to 5.23%, up nearly half a point over the past month. When bonds pay more, gold — which pays nothing — loses its shine. At the same time, surging oil prices fueled inflation concerns and strengthened expectations for higher-for-longer interest rates.
Markets are now pricing the Fed funds rate to rise to about 4.3% by December, with more than a 70% chance the Fed will raise rates again in October. Higher rates make holding gold more expensive — you give up interest you could be earning elsewhere.
The small bounce?
Traders are weighing the Fed rate path, though oil-driven inflation reinforced expectations of tighter monetary policy.
What to watch:
The next Fed meeting is October 27-28, and US economic data out this week.
