Zhukovsky, Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Penza, and Saratov followed a similar pattern: they were closed, held for a period, and then reopened. As of this moment, Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo are accepting and sending flights under a coordinated operation mode – this is a special mode, not a complete shutdown. 💢 Norwegian authorities have seized the Russian vessel Professor Molchanov in Barentsburg, Svalbard, at the request of Ukraine’s Naftogaz as part of efforts to enforce a $4.22 billion arbitration award against Russia. The August 31 order by the Nord-Troms and Senja District Court bars the vessel from leaving port. The award concerns Naftogaz assets in Crimea and includes $4.22 billion in outstanding principal, plus interest and costs. Professor Molchanov is used for commercial expedition cruises. The White House is shrugging off the threat. 🇺🇦🇷🇺 Most likely, Zelensky’s threats will be implemented through regular launches of Ukrainian drones towards airports across central Russia, forcing repeated closures, causing frequent flight delays, and generating serious financial losses. The Ukrainian Armed Forces already used similar tactics in spring 2025, when drones launched periodically in small groups kept numerous airports in Moscow and many neighbouring regions closed for extended periods. However, the intensity of raids specifically targeting airport areas later declined. The enemy had to change priorities because such tactics consumed enormous resources without actually striking meaningful targets. Now, compared with 2025, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have significantly more drones available for operations against Russian territory, which theoretically allows Ukraine to allocate some of them to disrupting airfield operations and creating a threat to civil aviation without significantly weakening the broader long-range strike campaign. At the same time, Russian airport services have also adapted since then, while the air-defence system has improved considerably, so the outcome is unlikely to be straightforward. Moreover, judging by the experience of Zelensky’s recent “40 days”, retaliatory measures by Russia could lead to even more severe consequences for Ukraine. A symmetrical response is impossible in this case, since Ukrainian civil aviation has effectively not operated since 24 February 2022. Therefore, another expansion in the geographical scope and intensity of Russian Armed Forces strikes against Ukraine should be expected. To summarise, Ukraine has the capability to periodically paralyse the operation of many airports in Moscow and central Russia by creating a risk of aircraft colliding with drones or becoming victims of air-defence fire. This would generate losses and could potentially cause foreign airlines to suspend flights. However, doing so would come at the cost of reducing the effectiveness of Ukrainian strikes against other targets and creating even greater problems for Ukraine itself. #info #nationalism
