THE CELTIC INVASION OF GREECE:
Much like the Roman’s, the Greeks lived in fear of a Celtic invasion. Except, their fear became realized following the death of Alexander the Great, when the Celtic people under (another) Brennus invaded a vulnerable and divided Hellenic world. Aristotle in his Politics 1336a regards the Celts as tough people who condition themselves early to the cold and in Politics 1324b states the object of Celtic society is warfare.
The Celts under Brennus shattered Macedonian military power with the death of their new king Ptolemy Ceraunus in 281, making him the first leader of the Greeks to be killed by the Celts in battle; with his death leaving the whole of Greece exposed. Following the Celts defeat by the hastily united Greeks, they settled in Asia Minor and Thrace, but in the aftermath hopes of Hellenic revival were decimated by the Celtic invasion, as Macedon nor Greece would ever recover; later they would be annexed by Rome in the aftermath of the Roman-Macedonian Wars.
