| 7 | Stop confusing pip move by adding lot size in it. These are two different things. Just know this:
A 10 pip move is a dollar change in price of XAUUSD. i.e. If price was at 2024 and moved to 2025 then it's a 10 pip move.
2024.00-2024.10 = 1 pip
2024.00-2024.20 = 3 pips
2024.00-2024.30 = 3 pips
2024.00-2024.40 = 4 pips
2024.00-2024.50 = 5 pips
2024.00-2024.60 = 6 pips
2024.00-2024.70 = 7 pips
2024.00-2024.80 = 8 pips
2024.00-2024.90 = 9 pips
2024.00-2025.00 = 10 pips
2024.00-2034.00 = 100 pips
In mt4/5 when you drag the sl or tp level it shows the value in points.
1 pip = 10 points
10 pips = 100 points
100 pips = 1000 points and so on.
If you ignore tha last digit in points, it becomes your value in pips and that is the quickest way to calculate your sl, tp and so on. (Use the crosshair tool)
For lot size go to your mt4/5 and right click the symbol XAUUSD and pay attention to specification:
contract size 100 (1 lot buys you 100 ounce of gold)
Minimal volume 0.01 (0.01 lot buys you 1 ounce and the minimum trading quantity)
Maximal volume 200 (200 lots maximum that you can buy i.e. 20000 ounce of gold)
Volume step 0.01 (you can buy in steps as in 0.01 lot, 0.02 lots, 0.03 lots and so on)
To calculate your lot size:
Amount to risk (in USD) / distance of stop loss (in pips) = number of ounce to trade
e.g. I want to risk 20 USD and my SL is 100 pips
so 20/100 = 0.2 ounce
So using unitary method you know 0.2 ounce = 0.02 lot size
Volume step is there because you can only trade in multiple of one ounce so sometimes your lot size will be rounded down. 0.03 lots to 0.02 lots and so on.
IMO use some lot size calculator if you are new and over time you get a good idea of position size and risk just by looking at the chart.
