| 9 |  🇺🇸 THE AMERICAN STEEL BUILDOUT IS ACCELERATING
President Trump announced today another enormous piece of the rebuilding of America’s domestic industrial base: a proposed $15 BILLION steel complex in southeast Iowa.
And viewed by itself, that’s a huge story.
Viewed alongside everything else happening in American steel, it’s part of a much bigger industrial pattern.
The Iowa plant is planned for up to 10 MILLION tons of steel annually, with production targeted for 2030. Mesabi Metallics says it will connect directly to its new Minnesota iron-ore operation—creating a domestic mine → rail → mill → finished steel supply chain. Combined, the Minnesota and Iowa projects represent roughly $18 billion of investment.
And look at what’s happening around the country:
🇺🇸 IOWA — Mesabi Metallics
🔥 $15 BILLION new steel complex
🔥 Up to 10 million tons annually
🔥 At least 1,700 permanent jobs
🔥 Fed by American iron ore from Minnesota
🔥 Production targeted for 2030.

🔥 $5.8 BILLION new integrated steel mill
🔥 2.7 million metric tons annually
🔥 1,300 direct jobs / roughly 5,400 jobs supported
🔥 Commercial production targeted for 2029
🔥 Project formally launched September 4.
🇺🇸 WEST VIRGINIA — Nucor
🔥 New 3-million-ton-per-year sheet mill
🔥 Approximately $950 million of 2026 capital spending alone
🔥 Commissioning throughout 2026
🔥 Production expected in 2027.

🔥 New Berkeley County micro mill
🔥 Roughly $450 million investment
🔥 500,000 tons of annual capacity
🔥 Approximately 230 permanent jobs

🇺🇸 INDIANA — U.S. STEEL / GARY WORKS
🔥 $350 million Blast Furnace #14 reline
🔥 Another ~$200 million planned for hot-strip-mill and steel-shop improvements
🔥 The furnace has historically produced more than 2 million tons of hot metal annually.
🇺🇸 ALABAMA — U.S. STEEL / FAIRFIELD
🔥 Approximately $475 million new Quench & Temper line
🔥 Another ~$75 million premium thread line
🔥 Roughly $550 million being invested in advanced tubular steel capabilities.
🇺🇸 PENNSYLVANIA — U.S. STEEL / MON VALLEY
🔥 Up to $2.5 BILLION planned
🔥 New state-of-the-art hot strip mill
🔥 $100 million slag-recycling project already moving forward.
🇺🇸 ARKANSAS — U.S. STEEL / BIG RIVER
🔥 Approximately $1.9 BILLION planned direct-reduced-iron facility
🔥 Currently in engineering.
And that’s on top of the projects already entering the system from the previous investment cycle—including Nucor’s Lexington, North Carolina micro mill and Kingman, Arizona expansion, which were ramping production during 2025–26.
The broader U.S. Steel/Nippon partnership alone calls for approximately $14 BILLION in U.S. growth capital, with $11 billion targeted through the end of 2028.
Trump’s 50% tariff on imported steel is a major reason companies are choosing to manufacture domestically rather than import steel.
The physical industrial buildout is increasingly visible.
Minnesota iron ore.
Iowa steel.
Louisiana steel.
West Virginia steel.
Indiana steel.
Alabama steel.
Pennsylvania steel.
Arkansas steel.
Some of these projects originated before Trump’s current term, while others have been approved, expanded, restarted or announced since his return.
What is clear is that 2026 is seeing a remarkable concentration of steel construction, commissioning, modernization and new investment across the United States.
And today’s $15 billion Iowa announcement dramatically increases the scale of the pattern we’ve been tracking:
MINING → STEEL → ENERGY → AUTOS → SHIPBUILDING → INFRASTRUCTURE → DEFENSE
America isn’t just talking about rebuilding its industrial base.
Billions of dollars of steelmaking capacity are now being built, modernized or brought online across the country.

We are 5 weeks out from the midterms, and it’s ridiculously quiet. I figured we would all be at each other’s throats by this point.
The MSM don’t really have any narratives to go with at the moment. The public have largely soured on the Left’s message/agenda, and Americans as a whole have largely rejected the woke nonsense, to the point that even the Dems are retroactively admitting that “Woke 1” was a mistake, essentially conceding that they are batshit crazy and Trump/MAGA were right.
