Why should you sign the petition?
Well, if violence against women and girls is declared a national crisis in Ethiopia, it means rising GBV and femicide will finally be considered as urgent problems to address and given a priority by the government. Actions that follow include: the establishment of a high-level coordinating body with the authority to compel cross-ministerial cooperation, a dedicated domestic treasury budget line to properly fund survivor services, and even enforce strict delivery timeframes and mandatory public reporting to ensure accountability.

We witness the systematic suppression of women in Ethiopia, for speaking, for leading, for existing. We witness the erosion of legal protections, the denial of justice, and the normalization of violence in public and private spheres. These are not isolated struggles; they are human rights violations that demand collective action. We will not turn away. We will not stay silent.
On this International Human Rights Day and at the close of the 16 Days of Activism, we stand together in solidarity, bearing witness to one another’s pain, protecting one another’s safety, and insisting that recognition, justice, and compassion guide every action.
