Ch . 10 Pragmatics 🌱 الأشياء الي حددها د.محمد باللُغة بالمُحاضرة السابقة 👇 - refers to the speaker's intended meaning . OR - Is the study of invisible meaning . تعاريف pragmatics أي تعريف تكتبوا صِح ✨ Context two types :- 1- linguistic context Or co-text Is the set of other words used in the same phrase or sentence . 2- Physical context = the physical location . سؤال سئلة د.محمد / كيف أعرُف قصد المُتكلم ؟ 1- know the meaning of the words in a sentence . 2- known the context in which the sentence occurs . 3- depending also on the pre-existing knowledge . 4- who is the speaker? in which time is said? the degree of relation . Deixis الأشارة ماعرف تعريفة ماسمعته من الدكتور Three types :- 👇🏿 1- person deixis ysing words such as "him , her .." as a way of pointing a person and things . 2- Spatial deixis using words such as "her ,there ..."as a way of pointing a location or place . 3- temporal deixis :- using words such as "now , tomorrow ..." as a way of pointing to a time . >>>> - Reference :- is an act by which a speaker uses language to enable a listener to identify something . >>> Anaphora :- referring back antecedent ماسمعت التعريف >>> Presupposition :- is what a speaker seems to be true or known by a listener . >>> Speech acts :- is an action performed by a speaker with an utterance . Functions 1- requesting 2- commanding 3- informing 4- questioning >>> - direct speech acts :- is a kind of act in which there is a connection between the structure of the sentence and the function . - indirect speech acts :- is a kind of act in which there is no connection between the structure and the function . >>> - politeness :- showing awareness and consideration of another person's face . - face :- is your public self - image . - face threatening :- say something that represents a threat to another person's self image . - face saving act :- say something that lessons the possible threat to another's face . >>> Negative face :- is the need to be independent and free fron imposition . Positive face :- is need to be connected , to belong to be a member of the group .

Ch . 9 SEMANTIC Semantics :- is the study of the meanings of the words ,phrases , and sentenced . * Two types of meaning :- 1- conceptual meaning :- covers those basic , components of meaning that are conveyed by the literal use of a word . 2- associative meaning :- the type of meaning that people might attach with the use of words . Like " needle " . --------->> Semantic features :- is the use of certain features like ( human , animate , adult , male , female ) of some sentences to explain the oddness which are synatically corret but semantically uncorrect . ------>> Sematic roles :- they fulfil within the situation described by a sentence . ------>> - agent ( subject ) :- the entity that performs the action . •. agent four types :- 1- human 2- creatures 3- machine 4- natural force معَ أمثلة لكل نوع Theme :- is the entity that is involved in or affected by the action . •. Two types :- 1- human ( the boy , girl … ) 2- non - human ( the book , dog …) - inatrument :- is an entity that the agent uses to perform an action . - experiencer :- when a noun phrase is used to designate an entity as the person who has a feeling perception or state . - location :- an entity is in the description of an event . - source :- the entity moves from . - goal :- where it moves to . •. Lexical relation :- explain the meanings of words in terms of their relationships . Wd have :- - Synonymy :- two or more words with very closely related meaning . - antonymy :- two forms with opposite meaning. - hyponymy :- the meaning of one form include in the meaning of another . - prototypes :- the characteristic instance of a category . -homophones :- two or moer different written have the same pronunciation . - homonyms :- one form has unrelated meaning. - collocation :- a relation between words that frequently occuring together . " corpus linguistics " :- is a large collection of texts spoken or written typically stored as a database in a computer .
