The novel begins with a group of boys aged between six and twelve who are stranded on a deserted island after their plane crashes during a wartime evacuation. The boys, led by Ralph and Piggy, initially attempt to establish a civilized society with rules and roles. They use a conch shell as a symbol of authority and order, which Ralph often uses to gather the boys for meetings.the boys' efforts to maintain order begin to falter. Jack, another boy on the island, becomes obsessed with hunting pigs and gradually draws other boys into his more primal and violent approach to life on the island. The group splits into two factions, with Jack's group becoming increasingly savage. Conflict between Ralph's and Jack's factions escalates, leading to chaos and violence. Piggy is killed, and Ralph is hunted by Jack's tribe. The novel concludes with the boys being rescued by a naval officer, who is shocked by their descent into barbarism
