Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said:
“A treasure, so be keen to preserve it. Therefore, avoid the causes of destruction, and increase in the causes of salvation, expiation, and elevation in ranks.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
‘There are three things that bring destruction, three things that bring salvation, three things that serve as expiations, and three things that raise one in ranks.
As for the things that bring destruction: a greed that is obeyed, a desire that is followed, and a person’s admiration of himself.
As for the things that bring salvation: justice in anger and pleasure, moderation in poverty and wealth, and fearing Allah, the Most High, in secret and in public.
As for the things that serve as expiations: waiting for one prayer after another prayer, performing ablution thoroughly during times of cold, and walking with one’s feet to the congregational prayers.
And as for the things that raise one in ranks: feeding food, spreading the salām, and praying at night while the people are asleep.’”

Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said:
“My brother and my sister, in ʿArafāt and in other places throughout the earth, persist abundantly in supplication on this day while you are certain of the response, affirming the Oneness of your Lord, acknowledging your sin, and declaring your Lord far above thinking that He is unable to do anything that you ask of Him, or that all of His creation ask of Him together. And all of this is gathered in the supplication of the righteous servant Dhū al-Nūn:
“None has the right to be worshipped except You, far removed are You from every imperfection, indeed I was from the wrongdoers.”
Believe it with your heart and make it part of your supplication.”
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The supplication of Dhū al-Nūn when he supplicated while in the belly of the whale was:
‘None has the right to be worshipped except You, far removed are You from every imperfection, indeed I was from the wrongdoers.’
No Muslim ever supplicates with it regarding anything whatsoever except that Allah responds to him.”

Shaykh Sulayman ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said:
• It is established from the Salaf—from the Companions and those after them—that unrestricted takbīr is to be done during the days of Dhul-Ḥijjah, from its beginning until the sunset of the 13th day.
• And restricted takbīr after the prayers is from the Fajr of the Day of ʿArafah until the sunset of the 13th day.
• So its final instance is after the ʿAsr prayer on that day.
• So follow the Salaf in this, and your reward will increase.

Shaykh Sulayman ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said:
• Be keen to fast during the first nine days of Dhul-Ḥijjah,
• But if you are not fasting, then be an eating, grateful one.
• And praise Allah when you eat and when you drink,
• So that you may attain the pleasure of Allah upon you,
• And so that you may have the same reward as the fasting person.
• The Prophet ﷺ said:
• “Indeed, the one who eats and is grateful has the same reward as the one who fasts and is patient.”

Shaykh Sulayman ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said:
• The Salaf used to strive greatly in the first ten days of Dhul-Ḥijjah,
• So do not deprive yourself of striving in them in all paths of goodness.
• For the hadith reported regarding the virtue of righteous deeds during them came in forms that strongly affirm generality,
• So it does not require a specific text for each individual deed.
• And let your striving in abandoning the forbidden be even greater during them.
• So do not deprive yourself in these days, and do not wrong it.
