Some people think that charity organizations should only offer help to people of their own country. But others believe that these organizations should give aid to people in great need wherever they live.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
One highly-debated topic among people is the distribution of charitable donations. Some assume this aid should be directed to local people only, while others dismiss this view. They claim the donations should be channelled to help those who need such help the most regardless of how far they are. Although I acknowledge the importance of the distribution covering far-away deprived areas, I believe when costs involved are exorbitant, the decision should be made on a case-by-case basis. Proponents of exclusive charitable support for locals might regard the reduced costs of delivering the aid as the main rationale behind their view. In their opinion, the closer those in need are, the less time, effort and money, otherwise finite resources, are necessary for charity organizations to spend to complete their socio-economically important mission. A run-down village located within several kilometres, unlike another one hundreds or thousands of kilometres away, is undoubtedly more accessible, reducing transportation costs. This is particularly sensible for countries with ever-increasing fuel prices, for example Russia. Critics of this idea, however, emphasize discriminatory treatment of such unfair allocation of resources. Not only will distant disadvantaged areas be deprived of support if areas in close proximity are the only ones to partly rely on charity, but they will also be left to their tight budgets to, for example, develop local infrastructure, from the construction of hospitals to subsidies for low-income families. Conversely, were they accorded the same opportunities to receive charitable aid, this might drive the communities in need out of poverty. Although the budget of charity organizations may not be wide enough to provide significant financial aid to all areas, prioritizing equality can serve as an essential tool to maintain social integrity. My firm conviction is that, should supporting distant areas in need prove costly, it would then be more rational to provide aid to local areas to avoid wasteful spending of charitable donations. Only through this effective use of charitable resources can we ensure that communities’ contributions to charity are not only appreciated but also used productively.#writing #task2

| 3 | The table compares how much oil was produced in 4 nations between 2000 and 2004, measured in barrels per day.
Overall, despite a drop, Nigeria produced increasingly more oil, becoming the leading producer by the end. While Chad introduced such production only in 2003 and saw growth after that, Somalia grew uninterruptedly. This was a sharp contrast to Congo, a country where oil extraction was the biggest initially yet declined continuously over the period.
Nigeria and Congo extracted substantially more oil than others, with their initial figures at 205,000 and 275,000, the highest on the chart. Then, the former had decreased to 190,000 by 2002 before increasing to 213,000 and thus marking the largest volume of oil extracted in 2004. The latter, meanwhile, witnessed a continuous decline to 203,000, an amount 72,000 barrels lower than the original one.
As for the breakdown of the remaining countries, Chad, unlike others, recorded no production in the first three years. From 2003 to 2004, however, it extracted progressively more oil, with the figure jumping from 8,000 to 50,000. Somalia’s oil production was the smallest between 2000 and 2002, when it climbed from 5,000 to 17,000. In 2004, this figure, after a notable increase, converged with that for Chad at 50,000 and therefore translated into ten-fold growth over the time frame.

➡️It took me a long time to master them, of course.
🔵I would like hold a 2-week challenge covering these for anyone with 6.5 in Task 2.
➡️It will NOT be focused on writing essays—it will BE focused on transforming a mediocre script into something examiners admire.
I'll announce everything in detail very soon.

| 6 | The bar charts provide statistics for the number of bookings and the cost per night at three different types of hotels.
Overall, bookings in 4-star hotels outnumbered those in others, regardless of hotel size, whereas the opposite was true for their 5-star counterparts. The breakdown of the cost, meanwhile, revealed that the more stars the hotels had, the more expensive they were.
The leading hotels among large ones were those with 4 stars, where as many as 290 bookings were made. This was followed far behind by 3-star hotels at 230 and, to an even larger degree, by 5-star ones at 185. Similar gaps were observed in small hotels, with those having 4 stars at 175. This figure was substantially larger than those for 3-star hotels (115) and 5-star hotels (a mere 90).
The cost for one night at these hotels was the highest in those with the most stars at 245 and 210 dollars for large and small categories, respectively. Much less expensive were rooms in 4-star hotels, 155 in the larger type compared to 135 in the smaller. Accommodations in 3-star hotels came at the lower end of the cost spectrum, as the per-night cost was 95 and just 75 in large and small types, in that order.

| 7 | The pie charts compare the percentage of accommodations used by holidaymakers from 1988 to 2008, at 10-year intervals.
Overall, despite a decrease, a majority of holidaymakers stayed with family and friends. Camping also dropped, even at a faster rate, while staying in hotels and, particularly, renting an apartment became more common.
Over the period, staying with friends and family was consistently the most common choice. In 1988, just over half (52%) of holidaymakers chose to stay with their family and friends. Although this proportion rose by a slight margin (2%) a decade later, it decreased notably at the end, to 44%.
Another falling pattern, one that declined to a greater degree, could be seen in camping, which started the time frame at just over a quarter (26%). Then, this percentage halved in 1998, going down further to 12% in 2008. Thus, the fewest holidaymakers camped at the end.
Unlike these two categories, renting an apartment and hotels witnessed rising trajectories, with their 1988 figures at a low of 7% and 15%, respectively. The former grew uninterruptedly to 22% during the time span, and the latter did so too, reaching the same 22% in 1998 and remaining unchanged until the end.

| 10 | The bar graph compares how many cars there were per 1000 people in 5 nations compared to the average of 5, from 2005 to 2015.
Overall, country 2 and 5, as well as the average of 5, followed generally upward trends, with country 4 remaining unchanged. Country 1, meanwhile, rose initially but rebounded to the original level at the end, in contrast to country 3, which saw an uninterrupted decline. Of these nations, it was country 5 that had the most cars per 1000 inhabitants, while country 1 had the fewest.
The leading country, country 5, started the period at around 900. Despite a slight drop of about 50 in 2009, the number reached the highest point on the chart at the end, when almost every inhabitant owned a car. A similar trajectory was seen in the average of 5: the initial figure stood at about 700, but by 2009 there was a marginal dip, which was followed by a notable increase. As a result, on average, 8 out of 10 people had a car in the countries studied in 2015.
The number of cars in country 3 and 4 per 1000 people was comparatively lower, with their starting figures on par at about 700. After that, however, the patterns diverged. In particular, that of country 3 fell sharply to below 600, compared to country 4 that saw no change.
Even a lower per-1000-people figure was recorded in country 2, where nearly half the nation owned a car in 2005. A decade later, this number was up, albeit to a negligible degree, at around 530. At the lower end of the spectrum was country 1, a category that experienced 33% growth from 300 to 400 between 2005 and 2009 before falling back to the 2005 figure in 2015.

| 11 | If you ever wondered how to make sure your grammar is complex yet well-handled ❓
Look at these examples:
• sentences are linked NATURALLY
• without these linkers, you'd have to use either standard coordinators or split the sentences in half.
• they are created in a way that does NOT make it difficult to understand them and show what a high level of Grammatical Control is.

| 13 | The government should provide free public transport 24/7 to reduce traffic congestion.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Traffic congestion has become a pressing issue in many nations. According to some, to ameliorate this problem, the government should introduce free public transport that runs around the clock. I do not support this notion, because high traffic volumes are not driven by public transport fare but rather by the convenience and speed of travel.
Those who support free public transport may believe that people will switch to buses and subway transport when there is no fare. The rationale behind this view is that instead of paying a high price for a taxi or covering ever-increasing maintenance and fuel costs for their own vehicles, people will prefer the cheaper option. Such an approach might actually lead to a reduction in traffic volumes in countries—India, for example—where fuel costs and car maintenance are affordable mostly to those from high-income households.
This opinion, however compelling it may appear, overlooks a major flaw: the proliferation of electric and fuel-efficient vehicles. These are now increasingly affordable and available, ensuring that even low-income families own a car. Rather than commuting on a bus, many now choose newly-introduced, cost-effective and environmentally-friendly electric vans, scooters, and hybrid cars. They are now widely prevalent in numerous nations, from the USA to Uzbekistan.
Besides, it is not the price that people are concerned about when travelling; it is, for one, the convenience. Today, many buses and trains are not well-maintained, which makes the travelling experience worse and thus not appealing, and even more so in the less wealthy regions, like provinces in China. With this in mind, people opt for the transport that offers better facilities, be it a taxi or a private vehicle.
Equally important is the speed at which travellers get to their destination. Public transport is well-known for its slow speed, and in today’s era characterised by late arrivals, many therefore find private vehicles the more appealing option. Although it is clear that a bus carrying 30-40 commuters cannot, and should not, travel at a high speed, this issue remains unresolved. For office workers, specifically, it is essential to be punctual, as many company policies impose charges on those arriving to work late.
In conclusion, I do not concur with the idea that the cost of public transport fully funded by the government can alleviate traffic congestion, since it is not the price that is the decisive factor; it is the speed and convenience.

| 16 | The lines compare the proportion of households owning various types of technology in the UK between 1997 and 2001, at 1-year intervals.
Overall, households owning a cell phone and those with an internet connection increased faster than others, of which those with a CD player were always at the top of the list. Of particular note is that it was the ownership of a DVD player that, unlike others, recorded a fall during the time frame.
Households with a cell phone as well as the ones with an internet connection saw comparatively greater increases, starting the period at 20% and half that percentage, respectively. Despite a period of stability from 1997 to 1998, the former jumped almost four-fold to roughly 75% over the entire period. The latter also grew, even at a faster rate, to 60% in 2001, thereby marking a sharp rise of 50% over this period.
The remaining categories experienced less marked growth. In particular, a CD player, which was present in significantly more households than other items, climbed from 60% to 80%, remaining the most common item. A similar 20-percent rise could be seen in computer ownership: while two-fifths of households owned this device in 1997, 4 years later, three-fifths of them did so.
In contrast to these, a DVD player was the only one to undergo a decline, from the initial around 28% to about 15% in 1998. After that, however, it rose notably and uninterruptedly, so that half the households owned such an item in 2001.

| 19 | More and more people choose to move abroad for higher education.
Do the advantages outweight the disadvantages?
One milestone in young people’s lives is choosing a place to study tertiary education. To find such an educational institution, increasingly more people travel to foreign countries. From my perspective, although this form of migration is challenging from a cultural and financial standpoint, the benefits it offers, from academic to professional, far overshadow the drawbacks.
Many people migrating to study at universities, like Harvard or MIT, tend to face culture shock. In their day-to-day interactions with locals, they experience language barriers and cannot always blend into the community because of markedly different customs and traditions. Even though many today try to learn about these aspects before they move, this often makes no difference, since real-life interactions are substantially different from consuming content online. In many cases, such migrants, having a feeling of homesickness, experience emotional detachment from their family and friends.
Besides, living costs and tuition fees might be problematic, too. Ordering a taxi or eating healthy food may be more expensive in foreign countries—for example in the USA or Switzerland, to name a few—let alone how exorbitant tuition costs might be. Those on tight budgets are especially vulnerable to these expenses, and unfortunately, many of them end up leaving their university to return to their hometown. Such risks may make the resources—time and money—spent on migration and education worthless.
Despite these downsides, I believe the upsides bear greater weight, and one of them is promising academic prospects. Gaining a high-quality education, particularly in high-ranked universities, is a fundamental pillar of further academic achievements, such as Master’s and PhD degrees. Even after taking out student loans and going through emotional isolation, students who graduate with excellence are often offered a fully-funded Master’s degree, paving the way for a future scientific degree. Thus, the resilience students develop in the face of the hardships can translate into future accomplishments.
Equally important is how beneficial having a Bachelor’s degree is for students’ career path. Unlike their counterparts with a poor academic background who are mostly accepted into entry-level jobs, well-educated young workers can secure a higher position in the company and thus receive a higher salary. This wage gap may lead to those with superior positions, be it a department manager or senior engineer, climbing the career ladder faster than those at lower positions. Given such future benefits, numerous students tolerate the emotional and financial struggles of moving for educational purposes.
In conclusion, the acquisition of a Bachelor’s degree abroad might be emotionally and financially challenging. These negatives notwithstanding, I am convinced that the positives, ranging from academic to professional ones, are more significant.
Band 8.5 ✔️
