The Federal Government has officially included cryptocurrencies and other digital assets under the Capital Gains Tax (CGT) law.
Here’s what every crypto investor should know:
• Taxable Profits: Any profit made from selling or swapping crypto will now be taxed.
• Tax Rate: The old flat 10% CGT is being replaced — gains will now be taxed based on your personal income rate (up to 25%).
• Exemptions: You may be exempt if your yearly gains are below ₦10 million or total asset sales are under ₦150 million.
• Effective Date: The new rule takes full effect from January 2026.
• Record Keeping: Keep proper transaction records; the FIRS will track crypto activities through exchanges and banks.
In short: Crypto profits are now taxable in Nigeria — make sure you stay compliant and plan ahead.
Nigerian Stock Market Crash Explained
The Nigerian stock market lost over ₦4.6 trillion in value yesterday one of the biggest single-day losses in years.
The crash happened because investors panicked over the proposed 30% Capital Gains Tax (CGT) on profits from selling shares. Many rushed to sell their stocks, fearing the tax would soon take effect.
Today, the market gained back some momentum after the Finance Minister announced that the 30% CGT plan has been put on hold and will be reviewed.
