FIRST SATURDAY of FEBRUARY 💙 “See my daughter, how my heart is encircled by thorns with which ungrateful men pierce me at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You, at least, try to console me, and announce that I promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who on the First Saturdays of five consecutive months, confess, receive Holy Communion, recite part of My Rosary, and keep me company for a quarter of an hour, meditating on its mysteries with the intention of offering me reparation.” ~ Words of Our Lady to Sr. Marie (Lucia dos Santos) on December 10, 1925 If possible, make First Saturday devotions today, in reparation for offenses against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, as requested by Our Lady herself in 1925, and confirmed by Our Lord in 1927.

2 of 2 Month of the St. Joseph ~ March 2nd And after seven years of plenty, behold a famine came upon the land, as had been foretold by Joseph. But, provident guardian of the people as he was, to provide again “the seven years of scarcity " Joseph had laid up an abundant store of corn in every city. “And when they began to be famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for food, and he said to them: Go to Joseph: and do all that he shall say to you." “ And all the provinces came into Egypt to buy food and to seek some relief of their want " (Gen. xli. 57). Application — It is not hard to see in the patriarch Joseph the type and forerunner of his great successor and namesake, St. Joseph. ~ Rev. Joseph McDonnell, S.J., St. Joseph, A Novena of Meditations and Prayers (1926)

1 of 2 Month of the St. Joseph ~ March 2nd St. Joseph in the Sacred Scriptures 1st Prelude — Behold St. Joseph on his Throne
1 of 2 Month of the St. Joseph ~ March 2nd St. Joseph in the Sacred Scriptures 1st Prelude — Behold St. Joseph on his Throne of Glory in Heaven. 2nd Prelude — Ask for grace to understand in some degree the importance of the place that St. Joseph holds in the designs of Providence. 1st Point — “Go to Joseph, and do all that he shall say to you.” — Gen. xli. 55. We learn from the Book of Genesis that Pharaoh, King of Egypt, made the patriarch Joseph, the son of Jacob, steward over his household, guardian of his treasures, and governor of his people. “Thou shalt be over my house, and at the commandment of thy mouth all the people shall obey; only in the kingly throne will I be above thee ” (Gen. xli. 40). And the King said to Joseph: “I am Pharaoh; without thy commandment no man shall move hand or foot in all the land of Egypt. . . . And he turned his name, and called him in the Egyptian tongue, The Saviour of the World” (Gen. xli. 44-45). (continued below)

I, N.N., give and consecrate to the Sacred Heart of our Lord Jesus Christ my person and my life, my actions, penances, and sufferings, not wishing to make use of any part of my being for the future except in honouring, loving, and glorifying that Sacred Heart. It is my irrevocable will to be entirely His, and to do everything for His love, renouncing with my whole heart whatever might displease Him. I take Thee then, O most Sacred Heart, as the sole object, of my love, as the protector of my life, as the pledge of my salvation, as the remedy of my frailty and inconstancy, as the repairer of all the defects of my life, and as my secure refuge in the hour of death. Be then, O Heart of goodness, my justification before God the Father, and remove far from me the thunderbolts of His just wrath. O Heart ot love, I place my whole confidence in Thee. While I fear all things from my malice and frailty, I hope all things from thy goodness. Consume then in me whatever can displease or be opposed to Thee, and may Thy pure love be so deeply impressed upon my heart that it may be impossible that I should ever be separated from Thee, or forget Thee. I implore Thee, by all Thy goodness, that my name may be written in Thee, for in Thee I wish to place all my happiness and all my glory, living and dying in very bondage to Thee. Amen. i. 300 Days, once a day. ii. Plenary, once a month. Leo XIII, January 13, 1898 Pius X, May 30, 1908. (The Raccolta, 1910)

2 of 2 Month of the Holy Family ~ February 29th Twenty-ninth Day (continued from above) St. Vincent de Paul, whose humility was so sincere that one might read it upon his forehead, in his eyes, and in all his exterior, made humiliations and contempt his delight, to imitate the excessive abasement of the Son of God, Who, he said in one of his conferences, “being the splendor and glory of His Father, not content to lead a life of continual humiliations on earth, wished even to be perpetually represented to our eyes in a state of extreme ignominy, nailed to a cross like a malefactor.” St. Jerome relates that St. Paula learning that it was said of her that her piety had made her foolish, and that it would be well to make a hole in the top of her head to give her brains air, the humble servant of God replied immediately, in the words of the Apostle: “It is for the love of Jesus Christ we are foolish.” Prayer My God, give me a love of humiliations, that this love may make me desire to acquire humility to please Jesus, to Whom it is so dear, Who so profoundly humbled Himself, and Who teaches His disciples to learn of Him to be meek and humble of heart. ~ Abbé Lasausse, Short Meditations For Every Day (1889)

💗 JESUS, MARY, JOSEPH ~ Unite us with the sweet chain of Love. 💗 1 of 2 Month of the Holy Family ~ February 29th Twenty-ninth Day Humility, to be true, should be always accompanied by charity; that is, we should love, seek, and accept humiliations to please God and to resemble Jesus Christ.—St. Francis of Sales (continued below)

2 of 2 Month of the Holy Family ~ February 28th Twenty-eighth Day (continued from above) St. Francis, St. Bonaventure, St. Francis of Borgia, St. Magdalene of Pazzi, St. Teresa, seized every occasion to humble themselves. We read, in St. John Climacus, of a monk who had a great love of humility, and in order to triumph over temptations to vanity, with which he was often assailed, wrote on the walls of his cell these remarkable words: Perfect charity. Love of prayer. Entire mortification. Unalterable sweetness. Invincible patience. Angelic chastity. Profound humility. Filial confidence. Perfect exactitude. Admirable resignation. When the devil came to tempt him to vanity, he said to himself: “I will prove you have no cause to be vain.” Approaching the wall, he read what was written thereon, making these reflections: “Have I perfect charity—I who speak ill of others? A love of prayer—I who cannot say one prayer without distractions? Entire mortification—I who seek continually to satisfy myself? An unalterable sweetness—I who so often look severely at my brethren? An invincible patience—I who will suffer nothing with out complaining? An angelic chastity—I who, neglecting to watch over my senses, allow thoughts that are not pure to find a place in my mind? A filial confidence—I who go so rarely to God as to a father? Perfect exactitude—I who have never performed one action without some imperfection? An admirable resignation—I who find it so hard to submit my will to that of God's?” Prayer I have no virtues, I have every vice; how, then, dare I be proud? Grant, O my God, that in justice I may constantly humble myself before Thee. Deign to cast a look of compassion on so miserable a sinner. ~ Abbé Lasausse, Short Meditations For Every Day (1889)

1 of 2 Month of the Holy Family ~ February 28th All who have had a true desire to become humble have practised humiliation. They knew it was the assured road to acquire that virtue, and that there is none better.—St. Bernard (continued below)

2 of 2 Month of the Holy Family ~ February 27th Twenty-seventh Day (continued from above) St. Francis of Sales had meditated well upon this salutary maxim; hence the remarkable tranquillity observed in him, no matter what the opinion of others respecting him might be. Having been calumniated, he said: “If it pleased God, I would wish that my innocence be never known, even at the universal judgment, but that it be eternally buried among the secrets of eternal wisdom.” Again he said: “If with the help of God I have done any good works, or if God has made use of me to do anything for Him, I would be well satisfied if, at the day of judgment, when the secrets of hearts shall be made manifest, my justice be seen by God alone, and my injustices be perceived by all creatures.” Prayer My God, I renounce pride, self-love, vanity, desire of the esteem and love of creatures. Give me a profound humility of heart and mind. I will make use of every occasion to practise humility. ~ Abbé Lasausse, Short Meditations For Every Day (1889)

1 of 2 Month of the Holy Family ~ February 27th Twenty-seventh Day One of the best means to acquire humility is profoundly to engrave in our minds this maxim: Each one is really only what he is in the eyes of God, nothing more.—Thomas à Kempis (continued below)

2 of 2 Month of the Holy Family ~ February 26th Twenty-sixth Day (continued from above) Father Alvarez having been accused in a provincial assembly of a fault of which he was not guilty, and publicly reprimanded in the most severe manner, he said not a word in his defence, neither at that time nor ever afterwards. Our Lord recompensed his heroic silence by extraordinary favors. Prayer My God, I take the resolution never to excuse myself, never to justify myself. Grant me grace to be faithful to this resolution which Thou hast inspired me to make, as a proof of my love for Thee. ~ Abbé Lasausse, Short Meditations For Every Day (1889)
