Old buildings
1. Do you prefer living in an old building or a modern house?
Of course, I’d go for a modern house. It’s usually more comfortable, energy-efficient, and equipped with better facilities. On top of that, modern homes require less maintenance, so they’re much more convenient to live in.
2. Should old buildings be preserved?
If a building has historical or cultural value, then definitely yes. They’re an important part of a country’s heritage and help us understand how people lived in the past. Once they’re gone, there’s no way to bring them back.
3. Are there any old buildings you want to see in the future?
Yes. I’d really love to see the Great Wall of China one day. It’s one of the most famous historical landmarks in the world, and I’ve always been fascinated by its history and massive scale. Seeing it in person would be a dream come true.
4. What aspect of culture do old buildings reflect?
I think they mainly reflect a country’s architecture, religion, and way of life. For example, mosques often showcase Islamic architecture and religious traditions, while castles in Europe reflect the lifestyle and history of that period. Every old building has a story to tell.
5. How do old buildings affect the appearance of a place?
I think they give a place its own character and charm. Instead of looking plain or ordinary, a city with well-preserved old buildings feels more unique and full of history. They also attract tourists and make the place more memorable. | 170 |

Describe a place you've travelled to that you'd recommend to others
I’d like to talk about Samarkand, a place I’d recommend without a second thought. In my opinion, it’s one of those destinations that has the best of both worlds. On the one hand, it has an old part of the city that’s steeped in history, with breathtaking buildings and famous landmarks. On the other hand, there are beautiful mountain areas nearby where you can get away from it all and enjoy the fresh air.
I went there with my family during the summer holidays. The main reason was to escape the scorching heat in our hometown. Summers can be boiling hot, so we decided to head to the mountains for a few days to cool off and take a break from our daily routine.
To begin with, we stayed in the mountain area for a few days. The weather was cool and refreshing, and the fresh air was just what we needed. We spent our time going for walks, taking loads of pictures, enjoying the stunning scenery, and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere. It was the perfect place to recharge our batteries and clear our minds.
After the weather became more moderate, we made our way to the old part of Samarkand for some sightseeing. We wandered around the historic streets, admired the incredible architecture, and visited some well-known landmarks. Every corner was picture-perfect, so I couldn’t resist taking photo after photo. I also learned a few interesting facts about the city’s past, which made the visit even more meaningful.
All in all, I had the time of my life. The trip left a lasting impression on me, not only because of its rich history but also because of the peaceful mountain scenery. If I ever have the chance, I’d go back in a heartbeat. I’d recommend Samarkand to anyone who wants to kill two birds with one stone—relax in nature while exploring one of the most fascinating historical cities in the country. | 153 |

History
1. Do you think history is important?
Yes, definitely. I think history is important because it helps us understand how our world became what it is today. It also teaches us valuable lessons from the past, which can help people make better decisions in the future.
2. Do you like to learn about history?
To be honest, only to some extent. I’m not a huge history buff, but I do enjoy learning about topics that really catch my attention, such as ancient civilizations, world-changing events, or the lives of influential people. I find those stories much more engaging than simply memorizing dates and facts.
3. Do you think the internet is a good place to learn about history?
Yes, absolutely. The internet is a great place to learn about history because you can find a huge amount of information at the click of a button. There are documentaries, articles, podcasts, and educational videos that make history much more engaging. The only thing is that you need to make sure the information comes from reliable sources. | 406 |

Evening time
1. Do you like the morning or the evening?
I definitely prefer the evening because that’s when I finally have some time to myself. After a busy day, I can slow down, relax, and do things I genuinely enjoy. It helps me unwind and recharge my batteries for the next day.
2. What do you usually do in the evening?
I usually do something that helps me unwind after a long day. For example, I might read a book, watch a movie or TV series, listen to music, or chat with my family. If I have assignments, I try to get them out of the way first so I can enjoy a relaxing evening without worrying about them. | 316 |

Sports events
1. What is the difference between watching sports events at home and at the stadium?
2. What are the advantages of watching sports events online?
I think they offer completely different experiences. At home, you’re in your comfort zone. You can kick back on the couch, grab something to eat, pause the match whenever you want, and even replay the best moments. It’s much more relaxing and convenient.
Watching a match at the stadium is a whole different story. You get to soak up the atmosphere, cheer along with thousands of fans, and feel the excitement firsthand. The energy is through the roof, especially during big matches. Even though it can be crowded and expensive, I think it’s well worth it every once in a while.
3. Why do some people dislike watching the Olympic Games?
Well, everyone has different tastes. Some people simply aren’t into sports, so they don’t find the Olympics very exciting. Others may only follow one or two sports, so they lose interest when less familiar events come on. Some people also think the Olympics last too long, while others would rather hang out with friends, watch films, or spend their free time doing something else. | 413 |

Describe a time when you watched a live sports
event and liked it
One live sports event I really enjoyed was a FIFA World Cup qualifying match between Uzbekistan and Portugal. To be honest, I'm not a big football fan, but this match was such a huge event that I didn't want to miss it. I would have loved to watch it from the stadium, but that wasn't really an option. I was snowed under with university work, and travelling abroad and buying a ticket would have cost an arm and a leg. So, I watched it live at home instead.
The match was played in the evening, after I had finished my classes. My family decided to watch it together, so we grabbed some snacks, made ourselves comfortable, and waited for the kick-off. Even before the game started, everyone was in high spirits, and the excitement was hard to ignore.
The main reason I watched the live broadcast was that it was a rare opportunity to see Uzbekistan play against a world-famous team like Portugal. It wasn't the kind of match that comes around every day, so I didn't want to miss it. Besides that, everyone around me was talking about it, and I wanted to be part of the excitement. I also think watching a match live is much more enjoyable than watching the highlights later because you experience every moment as it happens. You never know when a goal or a surprising moment might come, and that's what keeps you glued to the screen.
What I liked most was the atmosphere. The fans were cheering at the top of their lungs, the stadium looked incredible, and the players gave it everything they had. Even though I was sitting on my sofa, I still got caught up in the excitement. My family and I kept reacting to every important moment, and it turned into a really enjoyable evening. Although I couldn't be there in person because of my studies and my budget, I still had a great time. | 305 |

MORNING ROUTINES
1. What is your morning routine?
Well, I’m definitely not an early bird, but I usually drag myself out of bed at around 7 a.m. I wash my face, do my hair, get dressed, and have breakfast. After that, I grab my bag and head off to university. It’s a pretty simple routine, but it helps me get ready for the day.
2. Do you spend your mornings doing the same things on both weekends and weekdays?
Not really. On weekdays, I have a fixed routine because I have classes, so I get up at around 7 a.m. On weekends, though, I usually sleep in until about 10 a.m. Sometimes I wake up so late that I end up having brunch instead of separate breakfast and lunch.
3. Is breakfast important?
I think so. To be honest, my mum has always told me that breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it gives us energy and helps us stay healthy. I’m not sure how true that is scientifically, but I do feel more energetic when I have a proper breakfast.
4. Do you like to get up early?
It depends. If I’m going on a trip or there’s something I’m really looking forward to, I have no problem getting up early. But on a normal day, I’d much rather sleep in. Since I’m not a morning person, waking up early isn’t something I enjoy. | 271 |
| 14 | Part 1 JOKES
1. Are you good at telling jokes?
Not really. I’m terrible at telling jokes because I start laughing before I even get to the punchline. By the time I try to tell it, I’m already laughing so hard that no one understands what I’m saying. In the end, I’m usually the only one laughing at my own joke!
2.Do your friends like to tell jokes?
Yeah, definitely. Most of my friends have a great sense of humor, so they’re always cracking jokes and making everyone laugh. We laugh a lot whenever we hang out, so there’s never a dull moment.
3. Do you like to watch comedies?
Absolutely! I love watching comedies because they’re the perfect way to unwind after a busy day. My all-time favorite comedy show is Friends. I’ve rewatched it more times than I can count, and it still makes me laugh every single time. It never gets old. | 255 |

| 18 | 1. Do old people often change plans?
Yes, I think they do, although probably not as often as younger people. As people get older, health issues can get in the way, or something unexpected may come up, so they often have to adjust their schedule. For example, they might call off a family gathering because they don’t feel well or have a doctor’s appointment, and they usually prefer to rest instead. So, they tend to change their plans out of necessity rather than by choice.
2. Do young people like to change plans?
Not really. I think most young people prefer to stick to their plans because they often have a lot on their plate. However, studies, deadlines, part-time jobs, or even last-minute assignments can get in the way. For example, a student may have to put off meeting friends to prepare for an important exam or finish a project before the deadline. So, they often have no choice but to change their plans in order to keep up with their responsibilities.
3. How would you tell your friends if you had to change your plans?
I’d be upfront with them and explain the situation honestly. I wouldn’t back out of our plans unless it was really urgent, because I respect their time and effort. For example, if I had a family event, I’d let them know as soon as possible, apologise, and suggest another day so we could still meet. I think being honest and keeping everyone in the loop helps avoid misunderstandings and keeps friendships strong.
4. How does technology help people make plans?
Technology makes planning a lot easier because almost everything can be done on your phone. It helps people keep track of their schedules, set reminders, and stay in touch without any hassle. For example, friends can create a group chat, check everyone’s availability, and sort everything out within a few minutes instead of making lots of phone calls. As a result, planning becomes quicker, more convenient, and much more organised.
5. Why do parents still make plans for their children nowadays?
I think parents do that because they want to set their children up for success and help them build good habits from an early age. They usually organise their daily routine, meals, study time, and extracurricular activities to make sure their children develop in a balanced way. For example, many parents sign their children up for summer camps, sports clubs, or language courses so they can learn new skills, become more independent, and make friends. So, careful planning helps children make the most of their time while preparing them for the future. | 268 |
| 19 | Describe a plan you had to change
I’d like to talk about a time when I had to change my plans. A few months ago, my friends and I were planning to go on a picnic. We had already picked a nice park, decided who would bring what, and sorted everything out in our group chat. Since everyone had a busy schedule, it wasn’t easy to find a day that suited us all, so I was really looking forward to it.
However, things didn’t go according to plan. A couple of days before the picnic, my parents told me that our family and some relatives had come up with a plan to go on a mountain trip on exactly the same day. We don’t get together very often, so it was a great chance to spend some quality time with everyone. I knew I couldn’t turn it down, so I had to change my plans.
In the end, instead of going on a picnic with my friends, I set off for the mountains with my family early in the morning. To be honest, it turned out to be an amazing day. We went for a short hike, enjoyed the fresh air, had a picnic, took loads of photos, and caught up with our relatives. We laughed a lot and made the most of our time together.
At first, I was a bit disappointed because I had been excited about meeting my friends. But looking back, I think I made the right call. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, and spending time with my family was worth every minute. My friends were very understanding, and we put the picnic off until the following weekend. It all worked out in the end, and I actually got the best of both worlds. This experience taught me that even if things don’t go your way, it’s important to go with the flow because sometimes the unexpected can turn out to be even better than what you had planned. | 271 |
