Tongue is one of the worst enemies we have.
Speaking ill of somebody. Nonsense. Something at the wrong time. Lies. Gossipping.
So how do we learn to control our tongue?
Some will never, I guess, because they do not suffer enough from the repercussions of their words.
Some will so long as they experience the negative outcomes of misusing their tongue.
Some sufis are said to have practiced reflecting on their day, specifically focusing on how many words they used during the day and how many of them were lagw, good, or bad, while chiding their nafs.
This comes in the very first chapters of Kitaab al-Hakim, the book by Ibn Ata Allah al-Iskandari. (The Uzbek translation exists)
This is directly related to the discipline of nafs and nurture of soul.
It shows a contradictory point to my previous statements:
Even when we suffer from the misuse of our words, we may not learn.
The downright manners listed above are all related to bad nafs–the root of all.
If we want to solve the problem, then we need to destroy its roots.
Otherwise, the cure is for the symptoms, not the ailment.
Interestingly, we cannot do anything against our nafs by ourselves.
We are so lost in this game if we play it solo.
So we should ask Allah the Almighty for help in this endeavor and nurture our soul.
We can achieve this through tazkiyah, I think.

| 2 | On love
First of all, do not trust love much.
People love as much as their ego can cope with.
Do not love for your ego.
Do not love just to say you have a lover.
Do not love if you want your love to be returned.
Love is not enough for marriages.
Sometimes it is the very factor that destroys them.
This is because couples expect too much from each other.
But you know what happens when expectations are not met?
Ingratitude for the status quo.
Instead, love someone for Allah.
Fear Allah and stay grateful for whatever is ahead of you.
In this sense, you can accept certain flaws in your marriage.
Loving someone for Allah already contains the most important ingredients for successful marriage.
Obedience, gratitude and respect are three of those.
So how to love someone for Allah?
Fear Allah.
Become closer to Him.
Live that experience.
Discipline your nafs.
And then you will understand how.
Some things cannot be taught, but learnt.
This is one of them.
If you don't love someone for Allah, you love them for your nafs.
You may not even know it. It's okay.
But just don't lie to yourself. Be honest.

| 3 | There are good things, bad things, and neutral, mostly time-consuming, distracting, good-for-neither-world things.
As my mentor once said, there are vanity and sanity games.
Vanity games are impressive on the surface, but meaningless and shallow inside.
Sanity games are boring on the surface, but meaningful and have a very deep abyss.
Coming closer to 25, I realize that my life has become filled with those nonsensical, vanity activities.
Reading philosophy, especially the western one, is one of them.
Why would we need philosophy when there is already a code of morals written for Muslims, specially written by Allah the Almighty?
Also, if I know reading a particular author doesn’t necessarily do any good for either of my world except throwing some smart quotes and names here and there, then why should I read?
Knowing a different perspective? However innocent that sounds, I disagree.
If there is no benefit in knowing that perspective, why should we know?
Reading novels can be good to create characters in mind to be like or not to be like, but how about reading Hadith and Siyrah?
Is there any better role model than the Prophet peace be upon him?
If you still value your time, energy, and money and think that this whole world is nothing, but an illusion, then do not play vanity games.
If you still believe that this dunya is a test and this life is an opportunity to pass the test, then choose sanity.
At least, this is what I do now.
I genuinely appreciate your time to read this channel.

| 4 | Why do we force it?
Hard on deals.
Hard on seeking attention.
Hard on even choosing our responsibilities.
If you have this "always tries to force" character, then cool.
Skip this post.
If not, what are you doing?
Does this put you in Heaven or Hell?
If neither, please, don't cut your genuine "you" off.
More attention.
More money.
More status.
More respect.
Yes, all these shiny things are good, but
Once-broken glass will never be the same.
Don't break your self.
Don't force it, please.
Speaking of who we are,
If who we are hurts ourselves, then we need to change.
How do we know if our self is a problem?
When we are not moving in the right direction.
We ourselves can say yes, but what if not?
How do we know this?
By listening to the constructive feedback of our mentors and changing.
What if our mentors are wrong?
Then we have the wrong mentors.
How do we know if that mentor is the right one?
They are now where we want to be or going there.
What if they are dead?
Then do they have any students left?
We grab their hands tight.
OK, but which direction is right?
The one that takes us to where we want to be.
We keep moving. We keep asking.
We think on your feet.
We don't force it.
We just let it go.
Take care of yourself.

| 5 | Why do people say that their relationships are important, but they don't even spend a fraction of the time they wasted on the brainrot content of some random bloggers on social media with their family? Health? Here's the big one: God? Long sentence, isn't it?
Is it just about the discrepancy between our stated and revelead preferences?
I have deleted my Instagram. Enough of this crap in my life. I was spending way too much time on it, just making content, imagine!
I can't live my life through this green screen, man. It's not real, but just a virtual extension of who we are. Most unfortunately, the cherry-picked extension of ours.
You have to think about the algorithm and all those little metrics just to hit a wider reach, but on the way, it is so easy to sell your soul for this game and lose your genuineness. No, thanks. I'm fine for now.
The crazy part is that people around me are non-stop scrolling their screen as if they would miss out on the most important item of news related to the world, for example, changes being made to the alphabet. Wow, wow, wow, man, chill!
Oh, yes, that's a very important piece to know; without us knowing, those changes can happen quite in a who-cares-anyway way, can't they? Duh.
The irony is that these same people are always complaining about lack of time, anxiety and feeling drowsy.
However, the brain that signals these symptoms can't tell them to delete their Instagram! That's the level of brainrot: lack of self-awareness at its peak.
If you spend one hour of quality time with your family every day, you won't complain about your relationships.
One hour of quality time with your heart, you won't think of suicide.
Some really intense minutes with your body, you will thank me for asking you to delete your Instagram.
15 minutes of concentrated reading in your field and you won't grumble about your delayed salary.
I know you know what to do. But why aren't you doing it in that case? Why don't you follow what you know?
Why do you love harming yourself so much?
Why wouldn't you care about yourself in the same way you would to your parents, kids or very close friends?
My friend, why can't you be your own friend for God's sake?
Perhaps, today is the time to make friends with yourself? Even if you haven't kept your promises to yourself.
When the world is going crazy, you don't have to go crazy with them.
Let God take all those views and attention and all and give it to others.
But you, you stay healthy, my friend. Spiritually, mentally, and physically.
Remember the high agency.
There is an infinite number of ways to reach our goals. Worldly and other-worldly. Regardless.
You're not missing out anything. One more time, do me a favor. Delete your Instagram.
Farewell,
@temursolief | 902 |
| 6 | The more you give them, the less they value. It is so easy to start taking things for granted. So, should there be a cap for generosity, too? I guess it depends. The real question is if they have to value what you give. This triggers another question: are you giving for the sake of giving or for them? This decides what to do. No, no, no. There is no right or wrong here. It just different outcomes for different people with different intentions. That's it. @notsolief | 489 |
| 7 | I have recently started a YouTube channel and shared my first video there.
📌 Why is subtracting often more effective than adding?
📌 How to prepare for the occurence of those Australian birds?
📌 What does that barbell mean outside the gym?
📌 How to determine a skinless teacher?
We answer these questions in an IELTS way, but the answers are likely to be helpful for the large majority.
Oh, by the way, the video is in Uzbek.
You may watch the video here if interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-k6fQlf53Y0

| 8 | The worst that can happen to a young prodigy is the fact that he achieves something great too young without a mentor.
Admittedly, "great" can also be subjective, so that accomplishment may not really be that grandeur in the eyes of some, though.
Worse than that is the surrounding of people who do not have any skin in the game of the prodigy, but are also available to give advice on what to do next.
They don't do anything other than creating noise. It would be a different matter if the prodigy truly wanted to become like them in a certain sense. But, not.
What happens next? We go astray. We lose the signal. We are just like a paper plane floating in the middle of a river.
We think we are the best, assuming that the world is a pond on our palm, but we don't even know we per se are drowning in a bigger water in this "little world on our hands".
Let alone this. Achievements often give us too much confidence. So much so that they blind us to believe that we can do anything we want (in an ability sense).
This destroys focus. Unfortunately, we are not Elon Musk enough to focus on multiple projects and still become a trillionaire.
They could also make us complacent like a hare in The Tortoise and the Hare of Aesop.
A complacent man is a dead man. You can't say "I've won" until you're there in your final destination.
And no, that final destination is not in this world, either. So why complacency?
Too much of anything is unhealthy. That's why it is recommend to find the golden middle in our religion, too.
But I myself am a big culprit of taking certain things to their extreme just for fun. Yet I also understand that it just inflicts harm on thyself.
If you're young and think you're smart, find a mentor. Stick to him/her like a leech.
Forget about your achievements, whatever they are. The past is long-gone. What are you working on now? Talk about that.
Heed your mentor. Don't get lost among the noise.
Farewell.
Solief

| 9 | “All learned professors and doctors are agreed that children do not comprehend the cause of their desires; but that the grown-up should wander about this earth like children, without knowing whence they come, or whither they go, influenced as little by fixed motives, but guided like them by biscuits, sugar-plums, and the rod,—this is what nobody is willing to acknowledge; and yet I think it is palpable.
I know what you will say in reply; for I am ready to admit that they are happiest, who, like children, amuse themselves with their playthings, dress and undress their dolls, and attentively watch the cupboard, where mamma has locked up her sweet things, and, when at last they get a delicious morsel, eat it greedily, and exclaim, ‘More!’ These are certainly happy beings; but others also are objects of envy, who dignify their paltry employments, and sometimes even their passions, with pompous titles, representing them to mankind as gigantic achievements performed for their welfare and glory.
But the man who humbly acknowledges the vanity of all this, who observes with what pleasure the thriving citizen converts his little garden into a paradise, and how patiently even the poor man pursues his weary way under his burden, and how all wish equally to behold the light of the sun a little longer,—yes, such a man is at peace, and creates his own world within himself; and he is also happy, because he is a man. And then, however limited his sphere, he still preserves in his bosom the sweet feeling of liberty, and knows that he can quit his prison whenever he likes.”
— Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, The Sorrows of Young Werther

| 10 | Give people bread and circuses, and they will never revolt.
I don't care if we win or not. I wouldn't care if we played in the World Cup. That wouldn't change a thing in a regular civilian's life other than boosting some officials' national ego and spending our tax money on titles and accolades.
Which are supposed to improve the country's face in the global arena to some extent, but do almost nothing here within the borders. Yet now I see, that is not even happening. At least, not this time.
This is nothing more than chasing status games. Last time who won? Germany? France? Argentina? I don't know. If they win, so what?
Of course, this sounds harsh, especially if you have bet a huge amount of money on a certain team, and it loses. Football is one of the most popular and simultaneously the "cleanest" ways to gamble, isn't it?
If your team lost, so what? If you care about your national pride so much, learn something today, improve your community and contribute a bit, instead of crying like girls.
I AM interested in sport. But I'm interested in DOING it more than watching as a spectator. Let alone being a viewer. With this post, I don't want to brainwash you, deterring from watching. Though I wouldn't encourage it either.
I'm just trying to say that being a fanatic doesn't make sense to me. Discussing about it and spending so much of your precious time on it, while your own life here sucks, is retarded.
Get life, bro.

| 12 | When you mistreat somebody, even if you were right, you feel uncomfortable. Of course, if there is conscience still living inside your heart.
I have made many mistakes so far, saying the sharpest things I didn’t need to say. I could say that I don’t care, but my soul always said otherwise.
I can be right in a certain situation, but what benefit do I get from being right if I upset someone? Or hurt them?
If the matter is on business or religion, then I understand. If it’s not, then what’s the matter with being right?
Even if I’m well-intended, does being right actually serve those people or my own ego?
Nassim Taleb on this: “If your anger decreases with time, you did injustice; if it increases, you suffered injustice.” [The Bed of Procrustes: Philosophical and Practical Aphorisms]
Untamed for some time, our nafs starts blindfolding our conscience. If we don’t take necessary measures, we’ll always be right. But, of course, at the cost of a clean heart.
Take note, Solief.

| 13 | Two Angels
Two angels were sent to the Babylonian lands back in the ancient past with the knowledge of magic, of course by the will of Allah.
Before teaching magic, they warned the interested against learning it. Yet people still wanted to learn it and use it on their foes.
They used it to break families apart and destroy the lives of their enemies.
All happened because Allah swt willed it.
But what benefit did those people get from doing it other than satisfying the very thirst of their nafs (if they satisfied, of course)?
More money? Higher social status? A sense of victory?
And at what cost?

| 14 | Instinct — when the house burns down one forgets even one's own dinner. — Yes: but one retrieves it from the ashes.
Crisis lifts us from our petty needs. Survival and the processing of trauma take over, and the mundane concerns feel irrelevant.
Yet once the shock wears off, the "animal" self returns. We cannot live in a state of crisis forever. This is the desperate, and perhaps grotesque, reclamation of normalcy.
One never forgot the dinner. It is just that the house burning down acted as an amnesia. As a result, the hunger was suspended.

| 15 | In praise there is more importunity than in blame. Why?
Blame is a finished transaction, but praise is the beginning of a negotiation.
Blame usually creates distance. Once the argument is over, or the compensation has been made, the interaction is mostly over.
Blame allows for growth or at least gives you a "nothing left to lose" freedom. Because it is direct, it tells you what's wrong.
Praise, on the other hand, creates a social debt. When you're praised, you're expected to be humble. You now have the reputation to keep, which is already a new sort of pressure.
It also traps you into a specific identity. When praised, you're getting a lable in a way that doing something against that label seems like "a betrayal of your own character".
Praise is also a delivery mechanism for a request. It demands a continued state of being that sometimes serves the person giving the praise.
The worst happens when it turns into flattery.
I don't like being praised for the reasons above, and also I don't know how to respond to it.
So uncomfortable is it that I'd rather run a half-marathon, soaked in sweat, instead.
P.S. "Importunity" means troublesome persistence or hidden demands.
The very first line in this post is of Nietszche. More on quotes and citations later.

| 16 | You know what you experience; you run through life like a drunken man, and occasionally tumble down some stairs. Thanks to your drunkenness, though, you do not break a limb: your muscles are too limp and your head too confused to find the bricks of these stairs as hard as we others do! For us, life is much more precarious: we are made of glass - woe to us if we're jostled. And all is lost if we fall.
~ Friedrich Nietszche

| 17 | Less is more
Less input* to consume
Less friends to open up
Less commitments to stress about
Less screen time to waste
Less goals to pursue
Less grudges to hold (better if there is none)
Less unsolicited opinions to listen to
Less social media accounts to run
Less possessions to carry around
Less promises to deliver
Quality over quantity (as cliche as it sounds).
It is not that we need more.
But we need less yet quality ones.
More adds more noise rather than giving us a signal.
Confused?
Decrease the number in the aforementioned aspects of your life.
More takes away clarity.
You don’t find the needle by putting in more hay.
You find it by taking out the most.

| 18 | Everybody, but for couples, is so overwhelmed with the wedding.
Life after that oh-you-will-never-have-this-day-in-your-life-anymore-and-its-only-one-day-come-on ceremony is interesting for nobody. OK, for very few people.
Most of those asking you when you’ll marry are not necessarily interested in you reaching fulfillment with your significant other through marriage, but mostly in the wedding party you’ll throw so that they can entertain themselves a bit because their own lives suck.
As someone expected to have a wedding soon, I have realized that weddings are not for couples.
They are social events, disguised as the announcement of the start of the marriage of the two, but hidden beneath is the party for the already-fed.
I get it. I am a part of this collective society. I am obliged to follow the culture. Wait, really? Am I?
The hardest part is the fact that I have to follow the customs, knowing that the tradition they call does not make sense. At all. Except the meanings they thought up because they like telling fairytales to each other.
Starting a marriage should be simple and easy enough for couples, but not in Uzbekistan.
Isn’t tying the knot legally and Islamically enough?
Those two marrying to each other think they match each other. Why do we complicate the process?
When is the wedding? Why are you asking? Since when has my singlehood become your problem?
Pardon my satirical pen. I'm just fed up with the "wisdom" of NPCs.

| 19 | Failure is a rule of life.
It prevails from the very first moments of our lives till the last second.
So don't be upset when you fail.
It is a built-in feedback mechanism that teaches do’s and don’ts.
Winning on the other hand is exceptional.
Exceptional achievements call for exceptionality in us.
Something very rare.
Failure is a precedent for winning.
As abnormal as it sounds, “fail more, fail faster” makes a lot of sense.
That helps chart the territory faster.
Something not everybody is good at.
Uncommon in a sense that not all normal NPCs would understand.
