| 8 | The concept of “self-learning” is a modern invention.
For most of human history if you wanted a skill, you either find a mentor to teach you, or you read a book. There was no "school", or course, or degree. Benjamin Franklin left school at ten and formed himself into one of the best writers, scientist, and diplomat with a library pass.
Abraham Lincoln had less than a year of classroom. He read Blackstone in a store that never had three hundred people in it, then went home and stayed until he could do Euclid at sight. Napoleon disappeared into the library at Brienne while the other boys played. History was a manual for him.
Michael Faraday bound books for a living and educated himself out of the pages he was sewing. The Wright brothers ran a bicycle shop. They learned flight from journals, letters, and trying things out.
Churchill finished near the bottom of his class, then read Gibbon four or five hours a day in the heat of Bangalore until he had the education the school had refused him.
The idea that you cannot learn a subject unless someone enrolls you in it would have been incomprehensible to them. HONESTLY A RIDICULOUS CONCEPT. This has gotta be such a large part for why the world has stagnated. People are looking for permission to learn, when it really should be a culture of curiosity that's driving it.
We should stop calling it "self-learning" as if it it is some trick. It is LITERALLY the default. Go get a book, sit down for 12 hours straight, and DO THE WORK.

| 12 | 😎 Sam Altman: Compute will be the currency of the future.
“I think it will be maybe the most precious commodity in the world.”
“Intelligence is going to be more like energy.”
“If it’s really cheap, I’ll have it reading my email all day, giving me suggestions, and trying to cure cancer.”
“The world is going to want a tremendous amount of compute.”
“Energy is the hardest part. Building data centers is also hard.”
“We’re going to want an amount of compute that’s just hard to reason about right now.”

| 14 | 📈 Anthropic’s AI economy forecast
Anthropic modeled what happens if AI adoption goes into overdrive and the numbers are wild.
By 2030, its extreme scenario sees U.S. GDP rising 32.4%, annual growth reaching as high as 15%, while intellectual-labor wages fall 10%+.
Meanwhile, capital’s share of the economy could jump from 40% to 54.8%.
So the scary part isn’t AI making the economy poorer. It’s making the economy dramatically richer while programmers, analysts and other knowledge workers potentially get paid less or replaced entirely.
Anthropic says this isn’t a prediction. But modeling an economy like this for 2030 shows just how seriously the AI labor shock is being considered.
