| 5 | 🤖 OpenAI’s Jalapeño chip is coming for Nvidia
OpenAI has published the first real performance results for its custom AI inference chip, Jalapeño and the numbers are crazy.
Against Nvidia’s GB200 and GB300, OpenAI says Jalapeño delivers 1.5–1.9× more AI work per watt and 1.7–3.6× lower end-to-end latency across GPT-OSS 120B, DeepSeek R1 and Kimi K2.5 1T.
For highly interactive workloads, exactly the kind needed for AI agents, OpenAI claims 2.1–4.1× higher performance.
The chip is rated at just 700W, compared with 1,200W for GB200 and 1,400W for GB300. OpenAI says its measured sustained power stayed at or below 550W in the tested workloads.
OpenAI plans to start deploying Jalapeño inside its own compute infrastructure by the end of 2026, with Gen 2 already in development and Gen 3 taking shape.

Skild says S1 can execute previously unseen tasks lasting up to 10 minutes, including:

The model takes a video demonstration as its prompt and translates it into robot actions for its own environment and embodiment.
Skild says S1 does not simply replay the demonstrated movements, it can recover from mistakes, handle environmental changes, substitute appropriate objects, and sometimes improve on errors made in the original demonstration.

wikiHow is suing OpenAI, alleging that the company scraped more than 11,000 of its articles to train GPT models without permission.
The complaint claims the copying infringed at least 1,200 registered copyrights, but the bigger argument goes beyond training.
wikiHow says ChatGPT can generate answers that effectively replace the original how-to articles, potentially hurting the site’s business.
OpenAI maintains that its models can use publicly available information under fair use, where courts also consider whether the use harms the market for the original work.
There’s an interesting legal wrinkle here, copyright protects the original expression of an article, but generally not the underlying facts, procedures or methods it describes. So ChatGPT explaining how to fix a sink isn’t automatically copyright infringement just because wikiHow also explained how to fix that sink.
The case was filed August 21 in the Southern District of New York and is still at the complaint stage. No court has ruled on the allegations.

Executives are increasingly encouraging employees to use public Slack channels instead of private DMs so AI agents can access more context, analyze conversations, summarize meetings, build presentations and even help make decisions.
At Zapier, CEO Wade Foster encourages employees to default to public messaging. He recently used an AI agent to turn two months of Slack conversations about a customer into a presentation, during the customer call itself.
ElevenLabs has taken it even further: internal communication happens on Slack, while an AI agent turns updates from roughly 100 public channels into a podcast employees can listen to. The more information AI can access, the more useful the agents become.
Private chats are often where employees brainstorm, vent and discuss sensitive ideas freely. Making everything AI-readable could change how people communicate at work and raise some very uncomfortable privacy questions.

SpaceX is reportedly taking NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin architecture to space with its new Starmind satellites.
Each satellite could pack 72 Rubin GPUs + 36 Vera CPUs into a custom SpaceX-designed rack that’s lighter, denser and simpler than NVIDIA’s traditional NVL72 setup.
And these aren’t just satellites with some AI chips onboard. They’re essentially datacenters in orbit, solar-powered, running datacenter-class compute, with results beamed back to Earth through Starlink laser links.
SpaceX says the same radical rack design will also be used on the ground, while Elon says the company is “exclusive to NVIDIA.”
SpaceX is talking about scaling Grok’s ground compute from 2 GW to 10 GW, with a potential fleet of up to 1 million satellites. First Starmind launch in Q4 2027.
