| 14 | 🚨 Today's key driver: Hormuz escalation is repricing the whole board.
Two oil supertankers (Saudi + South Korean owned) were struck in the Strait of Hormuz overnight, and the US followed with fresh strikes on Iranian targets. Oil is reacting hard — WTI back above $88, Brent through $92.50.
That's spilling into everything else:
🔹 Yields surging — 10Y near 4.78%, 30Y closing in on 5.3%. Japan's 10Y just hit 3% for the first time since 1996.
🔹 Fed repricing hawkish — Warsh's Jackson Hole tone + rising oil has Deutsche Bank now calling a September hike the "most likely outcome." Evercore's Guha says inflation and oil now matter more to the Fed than the jobs data this week.
🔹 Equities under pressure — Nasdaq leading losses, tech/chips hit hardest.
Why this matters for gold: normally a geopolitical shock = safe-haven bid. But rising real yields on hawkish Fed repricing are fighting that flow. This is the tension to watch into Friday's NFP — a weak jobs number now competes directly with an oil-driven inflation scare for the Fed's attention.

| 17 | 📅 NFP week — here's the setup.
Last month's print: -23K vs +80K forecast, with a further -103K in revisions to prior months. That single release flipped the narrative from "cooling labor market" to "cracking labor market" — and it's what broke gold out of its August range, not CPI, not the Fed.
What to watch this week:
🔹 ADP (Wed) — early signal, often noisy, but moves risk sentiment
🔹 Jobless claims (Thu) — the trend matters more than one print
🔹 NFP (Fri, 8:30 ET) — forecast sits at +58K
The setup:
A soft print — anywhere near or below zero again — all but confirms the Fed is boxed in, and gold likely continues the breakout. A hot print near or above forecast is the bigger risk this week: markets aren't positioned for strength, so it could hit harder than usual.
