FUOYE SUG LEADERSHIP ENGAGES NELFUND DESK OFFICE OVER MEMBERS’ REFUND COMPLAINTS
The Federal University Oye-Ekiti Students’ Union Government (SUG), under the leadership of the Union President, Ààrẹ Ajayi Oluwasegun, has engaged the FUOYE NELFUND Desk Office following numerous complaints from students concerning delays in NELFUND refunds.
During the engagement, the Union sought clarification on the status of debited E-wallets, outstanding refunds, and the payment timeline.
The NELFUND Desk Office informed the Union that more than five batches out of the 25 previously debited batches have been processed, with beneficiaries expected to receive their refunds in their registered bank accounts. The delay in processing some batches was attributed to technical glitches, which have reportedly been identified and resolved.
The debiting of new beneficiaries has temporarily been placed on hold to enable the completion of payments to those already debited. As of 28 August 2026, the debiting process had reached 13 May 2026 and is expected to resume after the outstanding payments are completed.
The Union also raised concerns about fraudulent refund-related activities. Beneficiaries are therefore advised to protect their NELFUND login details and personal information and never share their credentials with unauthorised persons. Payments will only be made to accounts that correspond with the beneficiary’s registered details.
The SUG appreciates the NELFUND Desk Office for the clarification and assures students that it will continue to monitor the process and engage the relevant authorities until all eligible beneficiaries receive their refunds.
We urge all affected students to remain calm, patient, and vigilant.

Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, Professor Babatola Ayodele, has attributed the institution’s remarkable rise from 33rd position to number one among state universities to improved infrastructure, effective administration, and sustained support from the Ekiti State government under Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
Ayodele disclosed this in Ado-Ekiti during the interactive _S’etigbo Multicast, anchored by the Bureau of Community Communications of the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES).
He commended Governor Oyebanji for his commitment to repositioning EKSU as a world-class institution, noting that the governor’s relationship with the university as its visitor, alumnus, and former lecturer had translated into significant interventions in academic development, infrastructure, research, and staff welfare.
The vice-chancellor stressed that the university’s improved ranking was a product of the collective efforts of the Governing Council, management, staff, students, and other stakeholders, particularly the state government.
He listed some of the governor’s interventions to include the provision of excursion vehicles, fieldwork vehicles for the Department of Geology, a trading room, 241 solar-light points within and around the university campus, two transformers, and an annual N5 million support for deserving academic staff attending conferences abroad.
According to him, the governor has also intervened in the infrastructural development of the College of Medicine as part of efforts to increase the university’s medical admission quota from 50 to 100 students.
“On policy issues, he took a bold step by constituting a very experienced and solid Governing Council under the chairmanship of a former vice-chancellor and professor of International Law and Jurisprudence,” Ayodele said.
He further disclosed that Oyebanji had leveraged his relationships with prominent Nigerians to attract additional support and developmental projects to the university.
“The robust relationship of Governor Oyebanji with people in power within and outside the state led to the construction and eventual commissioning of the Renewed Hope ICT Experience Centre, donated by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with additional interventions announced and provided to the university on the day of the commissioning,” he said.
The VC noted that the governor’s interventions had gone beyond infrastructure to encompass students’ welfare, staff development, and institutional funding.
Ayodele said his administration would continue to consolidate the gains already recorded, expressing the desire to be remembered for sustaining and improving the progress achieved by the university.
He stressed that the ultimate objective was to reposition EKSU as a globally competitive institution capable of producing highly skilled graduates and impactful research that would contribute meaningfully to national and international development.

| 16 |  EKSU Faculty of Education Identifies Education, Patriotism and Discipline as Tools for National Security

The Faculty of Education, Ekiti State University (EKSU), has identified quality education, patriotism and discipline as essential tools for addressing Nigeria’s growing national security challenges.
A senior commissioned officer of the Nigerian Air Force and alumnus of EKSU, Wing Commander Ademola Ogunleye, made this submission while delivering the Faculty’s annual lecture, themed “Education for National Security: Schools and Citizenship as Pillars of Patriotism and Discipline.” He stressed that national security does not begin at the nation’s borders, as commonly perceived, but originates from the minds, values and conduct of citizens.
According to Ogunleye, Nigeria’s security challenges requires a collective response rather than being left exclusively to the military and other security agencies. He identified families, communities and schools as the primary foundations for shaping responsible citizens, noting that sound upbringing and quality education would promote respect for the law, discipline and patriotism.
The Air Force officer also recalled the setback suffered by Nigeria’s national security during the Civil War, which, he noted, placed the sovereignty of the country at serious risk. He therefore advocated a proactive approach to contemporary security threats through education, research and civic responsibility.
Ogunleye recommended that EKSU consider introducing Critical Thinking as a course of study, citing its relevance to developing deeper understanding, research capacity and practical approaches to addressing complex security challenges, as practised in many universities in the Western world.
In his opening address, EKSU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, commended Wing Commander Ogunleye for his professionalism and service to the nation. He urged students to emulate the Air Force officer as an alumnus who continues to make the University proud on the national and international stages.
Professor Ayodele lauded the bold and visible steps taken by the Visitor to the University and Governor of Ekiti, Biodun Oyebanji at overhauling the state’s security architecture, which had been adjudged to have made Ekiti state one of the few most peaceful and safest states to live in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the Faculty of Education for choosing a theme that directly reflects Nigeria’s current security realities and charged its lecturers to intensify research into how education can help reduce violent extremism, kidnapping and cyber fraud.
The Dean of the Faculty of Education, Professor T.K. Akinwamide, said the security question had moved beyond the barracks into the classroom.
He noted that, as trainers of teachers and educational managers, the Faculty had recognised Nigeria’s worsening security situation as both a professional and curricular concern requiring rigorous academic research and appropriate educational interventions.
Earlier, Professor Ayodele had received Wing Commander Ogunleye in his office during a courtesy visit. Ogunleye congratulated the Vice-Chancellor on his second anniversary in office and commended his administration for transforming EKSU towards world-class status, particularly through improvements in the University’s academic standing, infrastructure and overall campus aesthetics.
The annual lecture attracted a large turnout of lecturers and students of the Faculty of Education, as well as principal officers of the University, underscoring the growing importance of education in confronting Nigeria’s multifaceted security challenges.
