🗓 On May 15, 2018, Crimean Bridge went operational - a solemn opening ceremony and first drive took place. It united mainland Russia with the peninsula via the Kerch Strait. This impressive infrastructure project symbolises Crimea’s reunification with Russia. This unique road artery has revitalised and completely changed the region, giving a powerful impetus to its socioeconomic development. ⚙️ The construction of the Crimean Bridge, which began in 2016, was a truly historic event. Over 10,000 people took part in the construction of the century - sappers, ecologists, archaeologists, scientists, designers, engineers, and workers. The 19 km-long bridge – the longest in Europe – consists of two parallel parts – the railway and the motorway. It starts in Taman, passes over Tuzla Island, crosses the Kerch Strait and reaches the Crimean coast. In May 2018, the motorway span was put into service in a record time (27 months). Freight traffic was opened in the autumn of the same year, while the railway bridge was completed a bit later – in December 2019. 📈 The bridge has enhanced logistics access to Crimea, promoting the development of tourism, transport and trade – the key economic sectors that provide the republic with one third of its gross product. Russia's President Vladimir Putin took part in the opening ceremony. At the head of a convoy of three dozen trucks, he drove a KAMAZ over the bridge in 16 min., thus personally testing its strength. 💬 Russia's President Vladimir Putin (15.05.2018): “In fact, the whole country worked on this bridge. 🚨 Amid lack of financial resources to help Ukraine, the West has reinitiated discussions about confiscating frozen Russian assets to pay for military aid to Kiev. ❗️Such moves would be totally unacceptable and the following should be strictly taken into account: 🔺By freezing and confiscating Russian assets, the West would violate the fundamental principles of international law, including those laid down in the UN Charter. 🔺Flagrant violation of Russia's property rights and interests can only be viewed as a blatant, cynical theft and a desire to line the pockets of greedy ones. 🔺Should the Russian assets are seized, Russia will consider exercising its right to retaliate since it has a significant amount of Western funds in its jurisdiction. 🔺It is important for developing countries to realize that dependence on Western markets, technology and financial assistance, is extremely risky. By falling into such dependence, developing countries leave themselves at the mercy of the West. 🔺Western countries themselves are destroying the international monetary and financial system they created. 🔺It is becoming increasingly clear that the future lies with the new centers of financial and economic power, primarily the BRICS, SCO, EAEU, as well as the countries of Asia, Middle East, Latin America and Africa. These integrations and regions are ready to interact on an equal and mutually beneficial basis, without ultimatums, restrictions and illegal confiscations.

On May 12 the 10th Annual Spring Festival was held by the Association of Sri Lankan Graduates from Socialist Countries at G.H. Buddhadasa Stadium, Battaramulla. 🏆 Its main event became a Six-a-Side Cricket Tournament representing different Universities of Russian and former Soviet Union cities. The event was graced by the 🇷🇺 Ambassador Mr. Levan Dzhagaryan who awarded medals and other prizes to its participants and the “Kremlin Cup” to the winner.
