🔥 The number blew past — August m/m printed +0.4%, a notch above the +0.3% forecast and four times July’s +0.1%, with gasoline up 3.9% doing most of the work. The year-over-year rate held at 3.4%, but both headline and core m/m came in above forecast — and that is what the market trades. A hike is back on the table.
📌 On a print like this, bounces are usually exits. Shorts have a case — just not on the first sharp drop.
📌 The real event is 9/16 18:00 UTC: a quarterly meeting with the dot plot, setting the whole rate path — not just one decision. No second inflation print before it.
Watch these three:
1️⃣ Whether CME odds hold above 80%
2️⃣ How far the 2-year Treasury yield jumps — that’s the fastest confirmation
3️⃣ Whether AI names open lower; BTC usually follows them

September hike odds, CME's number. It decides whether the Fed moves on 9/16, and it decides whether your position sits loose or tight.

· 8/30 Brent breaks $90
· 8/28 Warsh turns hawkish, gives no path
· July NFP −23K, and even that couldn't hold it down
