There is no evidence that the railway accident in Urda (Toledo) was caused by sabotage or the intervention of a foreign actor, as misleading social media posts claim. Investigations are continuing, and the government has pointed to a possible “human error” at Adif’s Control Centre.
Posts on social media platforms X and Facebook claim that the serious accident involving two high-speed trains that collided near the town of Urda, in Toledo province, was caused by sabotage carried out by “Russia or Israel.”

Following the failure, Adif’s Control Centre decided to resume train operations “with a train stopped and a red signal at the entrance to Urda station.”
The decision to allow the train to continue was made without imposing a speed restriction on the train involved in the accident.
“The decision was made by the Control Centre, and that is the origin of the accident,” the transport minister said. However, he stressed that he was not assigning responsibility to anyone “at this stage,” adding that the investigation would determine who was responsible.
At 8:36 a.m., the AVE train driver was authorised to resume the journey. The train travelled approximately 25 kilometres between 8:36 a.m. and 8:53 a.m., when the accident occurred as it struck an Iryo train that was on the track.
Meanwhile, the Independent Administrative Authority for the Technical Investigation of Railway, Maritime and Civil Aviation Accidents and Incidents (AITAT) stated that it was still “much too early” to put forward any hypotheses about the causes of the accident.
On Wednesday, Civil Guard officers and technical experts from the Railway Accident Investigation Commission (CIAF) questioned the control-centre operator who was managing traffic on the Madrid–Seville high-speed line when the accident occurred.
Therefore, there is no evidence to support identifying sabotage as the cause of the collision between the two trains in Urda. The information from the investigation available so far does not point towards that hypothesis.
