🎬 Tutorial: How to easily model robots using ONSHAPE We live in a time where our phones have computing power that would have been the envy of NASA a few decades ago. So, in theory, we should be able to simulate just about anything. Thanks to [rhoban], robots you design in OnShape — a popular CAD tool — are now easier to simulate using several common simulation tools. https://youtu.be/C8oK4uUmbRw #video #robots #design #3D_modeling

📚 Bert Moons, Daniel Bankman, Marian Verhelst - Embedded Deep Learning (2019) This book covers algorithmic and hardware implementation techniques to enable embedded deep learning. The authors describe synergetic design approaches on the application-, algorithmic-, computer architecture-, and circuit-level that will help in achieving the goal of reducing the computational cost of deep learning algorithms. The impact of these techniques is displayed in four silicon prototypes for embedded deep learning. #books #machine_learning

📟 STM32U5 Cortex-M33 MCU gets more performance, 2D graphics accelerator, and advanced security The new family has a higher 160 MHz clock speed, up to 2048 KB flash, up to 786 KB RAM, a 2D graphics accelerator, several peripherals have been upgraded, and a new autonomous mode lets DMA and peripherals keep working while most of the device sleeps in order to save power. STM32U5 MCUs also integrate additional hardware security features, and are manufactured using a 40nm process, which the company says is the most advanced process suitable for microcontrollers. The new STM32U5 microcontrollers will be supported by the STM32Cube software suite that includes Azure RTOS (aka ThreadX), STM32CubeMX, and STM32CubeIDE tools, as well as code examples. Third-party IDEs such as IAR Embedded Workbench and MDK-ARM are also supported. More information... #news #boards #stm32

🎛 Tiny 2040 – Pimoroni Pimoroni has officially launched its Tiny RP2040, an ultra-compact competitor to the Raspberry Pi Pico. The Tiny 2040 uses the same Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller as the Pico, running its two Arm Cortex-M0+ cores at the same 133MHz+ clock speed and with the same 264kB of static RAM (SRAM). From there, the two diverge considerably: The Tiny 2040 is an ultra-compact design the size of a UK postage stamp with 12 general-purpose input/output (GPIO) pins, an on-board switch, user-controllable RGB LED, and 8MB of quad-SPI flash with execute-in-place (XIP) capabilities. Specifications: ▫️ Powered by RP2040 ▫️ ARM Cortex M0+ running at up to 133Mhz ▫️ 264kB of SRAM ▫️ USB-C connector for power, programming, and data transfer ▫️ 8MB of QSPI flash supporting XiP ▫️ User controllable RGB LED ▫️ Twelve IO pins (including four 12-bit ADC channels) ▫️ Switch for basic input (doubles up as DFU select on boot) ▫️ On-board 3V3 regulator More information: ▫️News link ▫️Store link #boards #news

📟 ESP32 Deep Sleep mode using Arduino IDE This article is a complete guide for the ESP32 Deep Sleep mode with Arduino IDE. We’ll show you how to put the ESP32 into deep sleep and take a look at different modes to wake it up: timer wake up, touch wake up, and external wake up. This guide provides practical examples with code, code explanation, and schematics. Having your ESP32 running on active mode with batteries it’s not ideal, since the power from batteries will drain very quickly. If you put your ESP32 in deep sleep mode, it will reduce the power consumption and your batteries will last longer. More information... #projects #esp32

📺 30 FPS FLIP-DOT display controlled by ESP32 The article describes the process of development of a novel type of display (which has a lot of advantages) based on magnetic induction and the way it can be controlled by ESP32 microcontroller. There are tiny magnets hidden inside each flat dots. Basically, to flip a dot, you have to flow an electrical current into the coil, generating a magnetic field around it. The direction this current flows will flip the dot from one position to the other. Only a short pulse of current is needed. The electromagnet core stays polarized, keeping the dot on position, even when the power is gone. More information: ▫️ Main article ▫️ Code & schematics #projects #esp32 #display

📟 Augmented reality on the cheap with ESP32 The author of the following article designed and built VR glasses around a 3D printed frame, ESP32, cheap LCDs, and lenses from a pair of sunglasses. The electronics is packed horizontally in the top of the frame, with the displays pointed down into a pair of angled mirrors, which reflect the image onto the sunglasses lenses and into the user’s eyes. Then he tested a number of different lenses and found that a thin lens with a slight curve worked best. The ESP32 doesn’t actually run the main software, it just handles displaying the images on the LCDs. The images are sent from a computer running software written in Processing. Besides just displaying images, the software can also integrate inputs from a MPU6050 IMU and ESP32 camera module mounted on the goggles. This allows the images to shift perspective as the goggles move, and recognize faces and AR markers in the environment. More information... #projects #vitrual_reality #esp32

🎛 Insanely Small Development Board: T402 Atto It’s an extremely simple circuit and hardly something that hasn’t been done before, but the value here is in the tricky soldering to make it rather than its novelty. The ATtiny402 and three passive SMD components are fitted on the smallest possible sliver of prototyping board to contain them, and the female headers and set of programming pins contribute far more to the volume of the device than the board itself. He also tried a side-on design with two smaller slivers of board before settling on the more conventional layout. The demonstration of the system in action seen in the video: the break is a magnetic flux detector, dwarfed by the 40-pin DIP Z80 it is sitting on. More information... #boards #arduino #experiments
