The significance of Jacob’s well is that it provided an opportunity for Jesus to present Himself as the life-giving Messiah to a Samaritan woman and, later, to her whole village. The woman had asked, “Are you greater than our father Jacob?” The answer is a resounding “yes.” Jacob may have provided his children with physical water in an arid land, but Jesus provides His children with “living water” in a spiritual wasteland. The life Jesus gives satisfies all our needs and springs up to eternal life.

Love doesn't mean agreement. Disagreement doesn't mean hate. It's amazing that not long ago this would be stating the obvious. Now it's a necessary reminder. No matter how much the world presupposes otherwise, those basic statements remain true. Don't be afraid to proclaim them as loudly as everything else being heralded today.

God gave Adam and Eve everything, but they wanted more. Before the flood, things grew worse. Everything mankind "thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil" (Genesis 6:5). When God chose Israel, they repeatedly ignored His warnings, no matter how much He blessed them. Even Paul said, “I want to do what is good, but I don't. I don't want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway” (Romans 7:19). Do you ever feel this way? You’re determined not to yell at your kids. You commit to take off those extra pounds. You promise God you’ll spend more time in His Word. But you don’t follow through. So what should you do? Give up? Decide it doesn't matter since you're forgiven? No! “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, [let’s] press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called [us] heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14). And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. And many more believed because of his own word; And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world. "Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did." ~1 John 2:6 This verse is sobering, filled with words that almost everyone can agree with but few will actually fulfill. Jesus had harsh words for hypocrites & once asked his followers pointedly why they called him Lord but didn't do what he said (Luke 6:46). Of course, there's a significant difference between falling short of a standard & being a hypocrite who claims something but ignores it. We can forgive ourselves for our imperfection. But for claiming to be followers of Jesus without actually following him? That's a problem. We are to live as Jesus lived. That's a very high standard, & it begs for interpretation. We are not called to preach in an ancient agrarian society, challenge corrupt religious leaders, & die on a cross to save the world. But we are told to live & preach the message of heaven, challenge injustices & deception, & take up our cross daily. We are also told to live with humility, be generous to the poor, love & serve those around us, walk in the power of the Spirit, be wise, & demonstrate the character of Jesus in all that we do. There's a reason Scripture repeatedly lifts Jesus up as our example. He is the model we are expected to follow. That's why Jesus called both himself & his followers the light of the world. (John 8:12, a Matthew 5:14), why he said they would be persecuted as he was (John 15:20), & why he presented himself as an example to follow (John 13:15,34). Students are to look a lot like their teachers, servants like their masters, & disciples like the one who trains them. We are being made into an image of original design & divine resortation- nothing short of the exact representation of God (Hebrews 1:3). It's a high calling but a necessary one. This is a controversial topic and it cause quite a firestorm. The reality is God will never tell you to divorce your spouse to be with someone else. If you are in a physically dangerous situation, there is wisdom in physical separation as the Spirit leads, but you are still married to your spouse. While this could speak to the larger issue of divorce, it speaks more to people using God to justify their sin. "Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery." (Luke 16:18 ) According to God's Word, if the marriage didn't work and you cannot live with each other any more after trying everything make ammends, separate-but you cannot remarry or you are committing adultery. ~Do you love your life here more than your eternal one? ~Which one has more value to you? ~Do you love your forbidden spouse enough to want them to have eternal life with God? ~Do you hate them so much you want them to go to hell with you? I know those are harsh questions to ask. I don't want to know the answers to these questions but if you're in this position, you better ask yourself all of them. Please look up these verses. 1 Corinthians 7:10-16,27, 39, Luke 16:14-18, Mark 10:2-12, Romans 7:1-3. These are God's words, not my own. They are there to help you preserve your soul.
