Plano-convex copper ingots were a common form in Bronze Age Europe (and the Near East). The shallow bowl shape meant they could be stacked or laid in rows for transport and storage. These ones were part of a hoard from north Essex and are in the Colchester Castle museum.

New video is live! The Cucuteni–Trypillia culture built the largest settlements on Earth. But hidden among their houses were enormous megastructures whose purpose remains one of the great mysteries of prehistoric Europe. Were they temples, assembly halls, elite residences, or something else entirely? I hope you enjoy the video, please like and share! Cheers!

STOP! 🛑 Whatever your plans are today, you must CANCEL them. You must watch this video today. You must be LATE for that thing you have on. Give your BABY an iPad to play with. Make your GRANDMA get the bus instead of driving her. Until then, stay on HIGH ALERT. Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Otzi did not grow up in a Horgen culture area as far as we know. His material culture has links to both the northern and southern cultures of the Alps. The arrowheads he carried (one in his subclavian artery) had affinities for both northern and southern styles and techniques. His copper axe was from south of the Alps. Otzi's childhood valley has been matched by isotope testing. But no trace of habitation or material culture from this era has been found in that valley (or in many others in the region). His material culture seems to link him to both the north and south of the Alps. Interestingly, his body was found right on the watershed between the north and the south. Considering his mixed north/south material culture, this led some to believe his body was left there deliberately on "the border" as a warning to one side or the other.
