Today is the Khalkeia. In ancient Greek times, a priestess would guide workers to ceremonially place wool upon a loom, that would over the next nine months be spun to make an elaborate, bright-yellow-and-blue robe to be taken in procession and placed upon the statue of Athena at the start of Her Panathenia Games, to petition her blessing and supervision of the games. I presume that after the games, this sacred robe would be stored or else placed upon one of the statues of Athena within the polis, and a new robe would be made for the next year. Thus, the making of the robe was a way of not just consecrating the sacred games but also of contributing to the worship and honor of Athena throughout the state.

| 5 | People often criticize our mission to establish an orthodoxy among natural religions. This stems from fundamentally misunderstanding our mission. We do not desire to tell religions what they must believe; in fact, we are more flexible and vital than any fixed tradition. We do not desire to eliminate, compromise, or alter any religious traditions. That is not what the Temple is about in any way whatsoever. Our mission is to establish alliance among the natural religions in order to affirm moral objectivism and ecumenical disposition: Our mission is to ensure we are all principled and cooperative. Until pagan religions can do this, they will continue to be misrepresented and genocided by the elite. Rallying around localism and particularism isn’t going to change things for the same reason a small petition or protest won’t change things. We are stronger united, in greater numbers, and with greater public awareness of the nature and superiority of paganism. | 10 | Why do people celebrate and decorate for Halloween and Christmas less than they used to?
Firstly, I believe that people don’t enjoy the economic prosperity and energetic optimism to decorate like they used to. Secondly, I believe people have grown weaker due to a combination of impoverishment, sedentary lifestyle, and softening of discipline and cultural standards applying to the youth. Thirdly, a friend points out that in some metropolitan areas, there are more foreigners who don’t observe these holidays. And, fourthly, I think everybody is simply on their screens now, so they do less stuff in real life. I also think people are so tuned into pop culture and Internet news/discourse that there is less local activity and folk culture. Because, for instance, other things that have declined precipitously are parents coaching their kids’ sports, people volunteering, local groups like book clubs, parents reading to their kids and people reading print in general, people’s willingness to do homework or extracurricular activities, public behavior and respect, and subscription to local publications and newspapers. It’s all “As soon as I’m done showing up here, I’m getting back home to my screens”: There is a profound lack of care for and investment in the real world around them. And, this is an unspoken but visible cultural existential crisis we are experiencing today. Let us take more time to appreciate the world we live in and be content with simple divine being; let us appreciate and contribute to the institutions we’ve built and maintain; let us enrich ourselves and our communities and get more active locally. | 143 |
| 11 | Many are beginning to think and talk about celebrating Samhain. Samhain is a cross-quarter day, occurring between the equinox and solstice. Accordingly, true Samhain is not until November 7th, and we are lucky this year because Samhain occurs during the lunar phase that corresponds with the season that Samhain ushers in (Late Autumn) and the element it embodies (Earth). What we seek to do is to establish an alliance between all legitimate natural religious traditions in order to understand ourselves as natural religion, promote natural religion against revealed religion, agree upon fundamental doctrines necessary to the sanity and justice and good order of the world, and defend and promote our interests. So what I do—after a lengthy period of investigation and as time permits—is I send out a Compact of Accord document which religious organizations can sign in order to enter in alliance with us and the undersigned parties. Sadly, some organizations fall into counter-religious thinking and think they are the one true religion and only way, and some lack the vision to admit of the necessity and benefit of cooperating with other natural religious traditions for a higher cause; they can’t see past their own noses. | 14 | Winter Nights
~27th October - 29th October
~13th Winterfylleth - 15th Winterfylleth
This is the time that marks the beginning of Winter in the traditional year.
This year my family and I begin our celebrations the night of the 27th. The reason is that the 100% full moon takes place about midnight that night. Thus we begin with the night just before the height of Moon's might (just as the day was traditionally reckoned to start with the night prior) and then continue another two nights with celebration.
The lore gives us a few terms worth knowing regarding the celebrations of the time:
• Haustblót (Autumn Blót)
• Vetrnætrblót (Winter Nights Blót)
• Álfablót (Elves Blót)
• Dísablót (Dísir Blót - Blót to the female spirits)
When we read the various sources for the traditions left to us, we bear witness to a blót in honor of Frey, the Elves, and the Dísir (Odin also presides over the Elves Blót as seen in the work Austrfaravísur); we are also told of a three-night celebration. It has begun to become a more standard practice among modern Folk to continue this and thus I'd like to offer my personal interpretation and practice.
• The first night my family and I celebrate with Frey's Blót.
• On the second night, we celebrate with Dísablót.
• On the third night, we celebrate with Elves Blót.
The first night we honor Ingwe Frey for the bountiful year we've had.
On the second night, we honor the Dísir (the female spirits) for their continued love, guidance, and wealth.
On the third night, we honor the Elves with a personal family celebration (each family will have some personal rituals they perform to honor their Forebears). At this time we thank the Elves for their part in us having this chance at life, our Luck, their guidance, and the wealth they bestow on us.
Some standards the Lore shares concerning family practices for Elves Blót are:
(1) the head of the household bears the epithet Ulvir in which he plays the role of Allfather presiding over the blót. The name means, "the one divinely inspired via drink," and recalls the drinking of the Mead from Mimir's Brunn done by Allfather, thus partaking of the highest wisdom.
(2) As referred to previously, the night involves ritual drinking (a practice present in all Holy Tides) where we drink with the Gods via the practice of Sumbel. This involves rounds of drinking (known as fulls) to honor the various Gods, Goddesses, etc. You can honor the Gods and Goddesses (such as Ingwe Frey and Odin in particular), the Elves, specific Forebears, and so on as applicable. | 86 |

| 19 | A Seeker posts in the chat today:
Aeschylus (525/524 – c. 456/455 BC), the great Athenian playwright hailed as the "Father of Tragedy," heroically stood his ground at the epic Battle of Marathon and, it is also believed, courageously fought with his fellow Athenians in the fateful Battle of Salamis during the earth shattering Greco-Persian Wars of the 5th century BC.
Celebrated 2,500 years later in a declining postmodern Western world for his literary brilliance, Aeschylus' tomb at Gela makes no mention of these intellectual accomplishments. Instead, it bears an epitaph honoring his martial prowess, which reads:
"Beneath this stone lies Aeschylus, son of Euphorion, the Athenian, who perished in the wheat-bearing land of Gela; of his noble prowess, the grove of Marathon can speak, and the long-haired Persian knows it well."
Aeschylus' epitaph illustrates a broader truth about history: the way the past is remembered is a living testament to a people and, even more poignantly, to what they considered to be good, right, and true.
What is imprinted in our historical memory, and racial consciousness, encapsulates our core beliefs and highest principles as a unique people.
The epitaph of Aeschylus, emphasizing his martial valor over his literary genius, powerfully attests to the ancient Greeks' deep reverence for martiality and the timeless heroic ethos of the West and its peoples.
If the Greeks were the originators of Western civilization and we are its inheritors, what does this suggest about the values we hold to be right and true, today? Are we on the right path or the road to ruin?
I responded:
A powerful lesson. Heraclitus said, “Even the Gods honor the war dead.” I say, “Fight the Good Fight, and never die.” The Germanics urged us to attain to Valhalla. In the battle, there is glory, and even if you die, you die in glory, which is the best death you can have and is better than living outside of glory. Within our intellectual and religious life, it too must be a fight for the Good and the glory of our soul and our people.

Primal and powerful. His mentor says the only thing that can be trusted is the sword. As Heraclitus said, justice is strife.
In Gilgamesh, it is recognized that men will even lie to the Gods, so force is necessary beyond simply oaths, honor, and piety.
Should we have good will for all? Yes, and we should protect life and basic freedom. I do not endorse Might Makes Right totally but rather natural law as you all know. But, the truth is complicated, and the truth is that there are hierarchical goods that we must serve, that constructs of nature must be protected, that we all must obey nature’s laws, and that goodness is what conduces to life and is not simply what benefits the individual, and hence force, legal restriction, nationalism, authoritarianism, and state religion are all necessary. When you consider that having good will for others doesn’t necessarily mean being kind and peaceable towards them, when you consider that freedom is only the capacity to assume responsibility (which many lack), and when you consider that we are only free to do what is good, you get a vision of life that essentially involves the strong intelligent ruling over the weak unintelligent and doing what is necessary to survive, live and develop healthily individually and as a society, and attain spiritual perfection. It is essentially Greek if Greece (or its polises) were a theocratic autocracy. This reminds me: Today is the Theokratia, the Temple’s reformation of the Greek festival Demokratia to fit Temple doctrine. Please say a prayer and make an offering today for the success of the Temple and for my well-being and triumph as theocrat Pontifex Maximus. 🙏🏻🔥 | 112 |
| 20 | +1 The Autumn Equinox rite was conducted beautifully and received several favorable and remarkable omens. As soon as the prayers began, a gust of wind blew strongly, such as has not blown in the two hours I have been outside this afternoon. And, right before the conclusion of our prayer, the first walnut of the season dropped off the tree into the yard next to the altar. The Gods stand friendly and ready for us to channel their power upon the earth. I thank Seeker Devin for offering Germanic prayers alongside our Hellenic prayers, and I thank Catechumen Scott for attending, praying, and participating with us today too. Today begins the third iteration of our Catechetical Program.
