Crypto exchanges see record-high week of BTC outflows, following FTX saga Bitcoin outflows from centralized cryptocurrency exchanges rose to a historic high this week, as investors increasingly turned to self-custody options following the collapse of now-bankrupt FTX. While higher exchange outflows are typically a sign of long-term holders putting Bitcoin into cold storage, the current increase is likely a loss of trust in centralized cryptocurrency exchanges following the FTX fiasco. According to on-chain market intelligence company Glassnode, “Bitcoin investors have been withdrawing coins to self-custody at a historic rate of 106,000 BTC/month.” Glassnode noted that this was comparable to just three other periods: April 2020, November 2020, and June-July 2022. Glassnode concluded that FTX’s collapse will likely “reshape the industry” and “shift the dominance, and preference for trustless vs centrally issued assets.” Invest in mining of the main cryptocurrency - Bitcoin! U.S. Banks Launch a Digital Dollar Blockchain Pilot The traditional financial institutions are taking a step into the world of digital currency. A group of banking institutions—including HBSC, Mastercard, and Wells Fargo—announced on Tuesday the launch of a proof-of-concept digital money platform called the Regulated Liability Network. The platform will use blockchain to create opportunities to improve financial settlements. It would also draw participation from central banks, commercial banks, and "regulated non-banks," including BNY Mellon, Citi, PNC Bank, Swift, etc. In response to the announcement, exiled whistleblower Edward Snowden tweeted simply, “It begins.” Let's see what comes next. 😉
