Task 1: a map
Task 2: Some people think that instead of preventing climate change, we need to find a way to live with it.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
SPEAKING
Part 1: There were quite a few topics:
• the area where you live
• Parks
• Headphones
Part 2: Describe a time when you sent a message or an email to someone but received no reply for a long time.
Follow-up: The examiner asked whether I often replied to other people late. I actually answered this while laughing because I’m basically the queen of replying late =))) The examiner laughed too, and then moved on to Part 3.
Part 3: There were SO many questions, and he interrupted me to ask follow-up questions almost every time.
• Why do some people reply late? I said it could be a personality trait, or they might procrastinate. Then he asked why people procrastinate, so I continued by saying that they might have too many things to do and therefore need to prioritize the more urgent ones.
• Is it fair to expect someone to reply quickly? I said it was understandable to expect a quick response sometimes because certain things are urgent and require an immediate response, but we should also accept it if they don’t reply quickly because everyone has their own work and responsibilities.
• What should you do to make someone reply more quickly? I said you could remind them or notify them in case they missed your message. He then asked what the best way to remind someone was, and I said you could simply forward the original message or email to them.
Then he suddenly moved on to communication and asked whether body language or wording was more important. I said they were equally important, although in formal settings, choosing your words carefully might be more important. He then asked why this was the case in formal settings, so I said it could help avoid misunderstanding and show professionalism. Then he asked me to give an example of a formal setting where this would matter.
• Should people avoid disagreements? I said no, because disagreement is essential for growth and diversity.
• Why does it contribute to growth? I gave the example of group projects, where having different opinions can lead to better ideas and discussions. | 580 |

Robert Louis Stevenson

It is more than 100 years since the death of the Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson on the South Pacific Island of Samoa, and it seems that time has not been kind to Stevenson's memory. Immediately after his death, his family and friends set to work to fashion the legend of Robert Louis Stevenson or RLS, as he became known one of the few writers familiar from his initials alone. Subsequent works of biography then turned him into a writer of almost religious importance. One example was literary critic Balfour, who in 1901 portrayed Stevenson's family as ministering angels to the dying genius during his final illness. Similarly, the biographer Crouch absurdly overstated Stevenson's significance by placing him in the same company as those most revered names in English literature: Shakespeare and Keats. The reaction to this nonsense was a number of highly critical assessments of Stevenson's legacy in the 1920s.
