Look at what’s happening with Laura Loomer. Whether you agree with her politics, style, or tactics or not, the constant pile ons targeting her appearance, her voice, her energy, or whatever else they can nitpick have become a recurring spectacle. Political influencers on the left, right, and everywhere in between jump in, turning personal attacks into content that racks up likes, retweets, and engagement. They act like it’s funny. They act like it’s fair game. But let’s be honest: it’s often just low effort cruelty dressed up as commentary.
People already covet what they see. In politics, that’s amplified tenfold. Everyone’s comparing themselves to polished images, viral moments, and highlight reels. Insecurities run high, especially in a hyper-visual world of selfies, videos, and 24/7 scrutiny. Yet these influencers many of whom preach about principles, truth, resilience, or fighting the establishment happily reduce a fellow human being to her looks for clout. It’s hypocritical when they demand respect for their own side’s appearance or personal life but tear into someone like Loomer without hesitation.
This behavior doesn’t just stay online. It signals to followers that it’s acceptable to bully and dehumanize based on superficial traits. Young people watching political content absorb the lesson: politics isn’t about ideas, policies, or substance it’s about who can deliver the meanest roast. Mental health takes a hit. Discourse gets dumber. And the cycle of toxicity spins faster.
Real strength in the political arena should come from arguments, evidence, and conviction not from mocking someone’s face, body, or presentation. Laura Loomer, like many others who step into the arena, chose a bold, unfiltered path. You can disagree with her fiercely. You can criticize her actions, statements, or strategies all day. But descending into look shaming reveals weakness, not wit.
What if political influencers raised the bar instead? What if they modeled better behavior focusing on ideas over insults, substance over superficial shots? The political space is already brutal enough without turning it into a never ending appearance contest. We should call this out no matter which side it comes from. Mockery for mockery’s sake cheapens everyone involved.
