1. In 2010 one year after the GFC. HYDROCARBON export revenue from our domestic extraction was our 4th largest export earner.
2. Refining the product here in New Zealand adds value here in our own economy to OUR GDP.
Not Singapore's or Korea's.
3. We had & could have again the infrastructure to source crude from anywhere on planet Earth.
Not just the Middle East.
4. The Government has the power to ensure our economy is not decimated by price controls. Ensuring our economy and prosperity have some level of protection.
This is no longer available, as our infrastructure has been destroyed.
These listed benefits only scratch the surface of the subject WHY NZ should have a refinery at the very end of a long supply line.
Today, we could actually be exporting refined product if we had. And buffering the NZ Economy from this OIL SHOCK
