Nearly 380 tonnes mined annually. More than 1,000 tonnes imported this year.
And nobody outside Beijing knows exactly how much gold China really holds.

In August 2025, the Federal Reserve published a research note looking at what would happen if the United States revalued its 261.5 million ounces of gold from the absurd statutory price of $42.22 an ounce toward market value.
Funny how things come around.
I will never forget Ron Paul telling me on my show about asking Ben Bernanke why central banks owned gold.
His answer?
“Tradition.”
The Federal Reserve itself is publishing research discussing gold revaluation.
I wonder what Ben thinks about all of this today.

| 11 | Huge congratulations to Tony Makuch on being inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.
Very few people in this business have built the kind of track record Tony has.
He helped turn Lake Shore Gold into a serious producer in Timmins before its acquisition by Tahoe Resources.
Then came Kirkland Lake Gold.
Tony took the reins and helped build one of the great Canadian gold stories of the last decade, growing production from roughly 315,000 ounces to more than 1.4 million ounces annually and taking the company from around C$1 billion in market value to more than C$13 billion.
Eventually, Kirkland Lake combined with Agnico Eagle in one of the defining Canadian mining transactions of the era.
But one of my favourite parts of Tony’s story is that he isn’t finished.
He’s back in Timmins.
Today, he is leading Discovery Mining and working to build another major Canadian mining platform around the Porcupine Complex and the broader Timmins camp.
There is something pretty fitting about that.
After everything he accomplished with Lake Shore and Kirkland Lake, Tony has returned to a district he knows incredibly well to build something very significant all over again.
Congratulations, Tony. Very well deserved.

I’ve learned plenty from watching Robert over the years, but perhaps the biggest lesson is this:
The world has become very good at imagining the future and remarkably bad at understanding what it is made of.
We talk about AI as if it lives in the clouds.
We talk about electrification as if electricity appears from the wall.
We talk about reindustrialization as if factories materialize from PowerPoint presentations.
Eventually, reality arrives.
And reality needs copper.
A lot of it.
That is why copper has become one of the centrepieces of my thesis for the decade ahead.
Humanity is attempting to build the most power-hungry version of civilization in history while staring down enormous constraints in one of the metals that makes it all possible.
As my friend Pierre Lassonde says:
