Back in May of 2023, following my work on the Predator DC series, I built an AI-powered web scraping system for tracking down online sexual predators. Very quickly, this system started flagging predators and uncovering their true identities. In one of our the first cases, Predator DC turned in a previously convicted sex offender named Donald Nickell for boasting online about horrifying ongoing sex crimes against children. Ultimately, FBI passed the case to DHS-HSI, who conducted an investigation and found Nickell in possession of massive amounts of CSAM. After pleading guilty to possession charges, at the request federal prosecutors in the Southern District of Ohio, he was today sentenced to… TIME SERVED. They cited his “poor health.” He will be allowed to live out the rest of his sick, twisted life from within the comfort of his taxpayer-funded public housing project. The children of Ohio are less safe today. I have never spoken publicly about the cases that we have made through the use of this system—but after today’s outrageous sentencing, I have no choice.
