More heads roll 24.04.14 Lieutenant General Yuri Vasilyevich Kuznetsov, head of the main personnel department of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation was arrested on May 13. He was placed under preventive measures in the form of detention by the 235th garrison military court. The day before Kuznetsov did report to his workplace because investigative actions being taken against him related to activities of his earlier tenure as head of the state secret protection service. Before becoming the head of the personnel department, Kuznetsov headed the Eighth Directorate of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, the department that oversees the Service for the Protection of State Secrets. There has been no official Kremlin information about Kuznetsov’s arrest at the moment. Predictable purges have begun in the Ministry of Defense.

During a quarrel in a restaurant, Bishimbayev beat his wife to death, and then called a psychic for advice and asked his relative, restaurant director Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, to delete recordings from surveillance cameras. Baizhanov was found guilty of concealment of evidence and received 4 years in prison. Forensic experts determined that the cause of Saltanat’s death was a closed craniocerebral injury caused by blows. According to investigators, Bishimbayev inflicted “a series of crushing blows to his head with his fists, from which she fell to the floor.” Following this, the Senate of Kazakhstan approved a law criminalizing domestic violence.
