Nice question 🥲

From Kunal Rastogi (AIR-15, CSE-2023) Hello my name is Kunal Rastogi.I have secured AIR 15 in UPSC CSE 2023.Today I am going to discuss about my prelims strategy. BACKGROUND IN PRELIMS I have given 3 prelims. From scoring just 90 marks ( 3 marks above cut off) in 2021 , I have scored 124 marks in prelims 2023 which is almost 50 marks above the cut off.I have attached the marksheets of all my 3 attempts. What I did differently? This time around I made some alterations to my prelims strategy which helped me secure such marks 1) Firstly, I focused more on the static part of the prelims syllabus.Multiple revisions of the the static part has higher return on investment than going after random current affairs 2)Secondly, I restricted my current affairs resources to only 2 entities- first being the PT 365 and second being the PEH series of IAS EXAM congress.I supplemented these current affairs with the revision of the mock tests that I had aldready given. I maintained a seperate notebook for novel current affairs that I came across in mock tests 3)Thirdly, I focused on giving as many test as possible. I feel practising more test not only bridges the gap of knowledge but also helps in developing exam wisdom that is required for educated guesswork. In mock tests as well I relied more upon the full length test rather than the Half length test as it captures the exam environment in a better way. Attempted mock papers from IASExam-Congress. 4)Fourthly m, I even prioritised in some of the static parts.Polity , economy and geography have a greater return on investment as compared to other parts of the syllabus 5)Focus on the NCERT. Even though they may not give the correct answer but it will surely help you to eliminate the wrong answers which is very important 6)In the last month don’t read anything new.Stick to the resources that you referred earlier and revise it as many times as possible 7)In the last 10 days of the examination ensure to only solve the previous year questions. Also keep in mind to solve pyq year wise in the last part instead of theme wise. This will help you to transit from coaching based questions to actual upsc standards which is very important 8) Read pyq not only for filling the knowledge gap but also for pattern recognition regarding the types of options been set and how one could arrive to right answer in 50:50 situations 9)Try to give a proper run through of the actual examination at least 15 days prior to the examination. Atleat practice bubbling in the actual OMR including filling of the roll number name etc.Although this may seem trivial but it actually reduces pressure on the D-day 10)Make a note of all the mistakes that you have been doing in the practice mocks that you have been giving.Try to read them daily so that such mistakes are not repeated on the actual day 11) Don’t ignore CSAT at any cost. It may cost you your whole year like it did for me in the second attempt.Practice not only the PYQ of csat but also give mock test (at least 3 in last 30 days) to ensure that you comfortably cross the cut off Lastly remember that each and every one of you have the necessary potential to clear the examination. You all have worked very hard to clear the examination. You should have the necessary confidence in your ability and keep a winners attitude-if there is someone who could clear the examination it is you.All the best for the examinations. Meanwhile if you have any doubts you can reach out to me on Instagram also. Thank you kaptaan for allowing me the platform to return back to the community from where I learned a lot.Would always be grateful for your guidance throughout my preparation. 🙏🏻 (We will have Podcast with Kunal in coming week)
