From EVs to LNG Here is why we need a technology neutral strategy based on full life cycle emissions ​𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲: Building a technology neutral, multi fuel mobility strategy balancing EVs, CNG, LNG, and Compressed Biogas (CBG) based on full life cycle emissions rather than tailpipe metrics alone. ​𝗦𝗲𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 (𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗜 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲) ​2W/3W: EVs dominate Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) due to high daily utilization and low running costs. ​Taxis & LCVs: CNG remains most competitive due to quick pump times and established refuelling networks. ​Heavy Freight: LNG outperforms battery electric options by avoiding payload loss and battery weight constraints. ​Life Cycle Analysis: CNG currently carries the lowest overall environmental burden because India's grid power remains coal heavy. ​𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗩𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: ​Shifting from oil to gas or EVs merely trades crude import reliance for imported LNG or critical minerals (lithium, cobalt, graphite). ​𝗪𝗮𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 & 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀: ​National Fuel Policy: Adopt a unified, science based framework updating the 2014 Auto Fuel Vision. ​Taxation: Bring natural gas and automotive fuels under GST to eliminate fragmented state VAT regimes. ​Infrastructure & Circularity: Expand CBG from farm waste, build LNG highways and EV charging corridors, and mandate battery material recycling.
