The Questioner asks: “Is it permissible to fast voluntary fasts before making up missed days of fasting Ramadan? “The answer is yes. If, for example, you happen to encounter the day of ‘Arafah or ‘Ashura, then it is permissible. However, regarding the fasting of the six days of Shawwal, voluntary fasting should not be done until you have completed what you owe. The six days of Shawwal are not to be fasted unless you have completed what you owe from Ramadan, based on the hadith of Abu Ayyub: ‘Whoever fasts Ramadan and then follows it with six days of Shawwal…’ Therefore, whoever still has days to make up from Ramadan has not fully fasted Ramadan. As for other days that carry virtue, it is permissible to fast them even if you still owe days from Ramadan. This is allowed.”

The Virtue of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah | Imām Ibn 'Uthaymīn https://t.me/theheritage019

Important notice Some of the laymen think that fasting the month of Allah Al-Muharram is fasting only the first ten days like the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah and that is a mistake. Rather, the virtue is fasting the entire month according to the statement of the Prophet (May the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him): “The best fast to observe after observing the fast of Ramadan is to observe fasting the Month of Allah Al-Muharram.” Reported by Muslim and narrated by Abū Hurayrah (May Allah be pleased with him).

Look closely at the diligence of the Salaf and the Scholars of the past and how eager they were to implement the Sunnah of the Prophet (May the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) once they heard it. May Allah bless us to be like them It was narrated from ʿAmr ibn Aws who said: ʿAnbasah ibn Abī Sufyān narrated to me during the illness from which he later died, sharing a hadith with special care. He said: “I heard Umm Ḥabībah say: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Whoever prays twelve rakʿahs during the day and night, a house will be built for him because of them in Paradise.’ Reported by Muslim Umm Ḥabībah said: ‘I never abandoned them since I heard them from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.’ ʿAnbasah said: ‘I never abandoned them since I heard them from Umm Ḥabībah.’ ʿAmr ibn Aws said: ‘I never abandoned them since I heard them from ʿAnbasah.’ And al-Nuʿmān ibn Sālim said: ‘I never abandoned them since I heard them from ʿAmr ibn Aws.’” Reported by Muslim

✍️ أبوعمَّار ياسر العدني مسجد الاستقامة - المكلا ١ ذو الحجة ١٤٤٧ هـ https://telegram.me/aboammaar Important note: There is no authentic Hadīth of the Prophet (May the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) fasted the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah but, it doesn’t prevent from fasting them because doing so is considered from doing righteous good deeds.
