While I'm generally not against taking advice and learning from elders, boomers are fuckin useless across the board for the most part, except for select exceptions like maybe boomers who are expats from Russia or some shit and went through the hardship of the collapsing USSR, someone like that might have useful tips for you, but aside from that, probably not unless he's like a savant in your field nearing retirement or something. It's a shame that most of the people who had living memory of the great depression are gone now, the way things are going in this country the stuff those people had to learn to get through that might come in handy for us. Boomers were handed the most prosperous civilization that ever existed and are like the first generation in all of history who gave less to the next generation who weren't like robbed of their wealth by some hostile outside power like Genghis Khan or something.

The funniest thing about Boomers saying the phrase "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" is that, historically, the context behind the statement was used to belittle an impossible request. Like if you were asked to harvest 1000 acres of wheat by noon, you'd say "ya and let me just pull myself up by my bootstraps while I'm at it" because if you could actually pull yourself up by the straps on your boots, you'd just be hovering in mid air a few inches off the ground. Which is, of course, impossible.
