The kitchen that never sleeps. ❤️ One of the simple pleasures of life that bring much joy to me—seeing herbs from the garden hanging for drying, something fermenting on the counter, seeing my canning shelf (the shelf I use is a shelf my dad built in shop class when he was in high school 🥰) or waking up the next day to home canned goodies that need to be labeled and stored, water glassed eggs in jars, scrap vinegar brewing, my thrifted home apothecary shelf with home grown dried herbs, fermented honey garlic and Elecampane, etc. coordinating with cute up cycled jars, homemade labels, etc. It’s eclectic and messy, but those small gestures that make a home cozy.❤️ -Karissa

Have a baby due in the spring? Husband working overtime? You can still have a vegetable garden!!! This is a huge downsize from our old place in Indiana, however, it IS something ❤️ All we did was lay a couple of spoiled haybales down on the lawn back in March. Added a small amount of finished compost to the spots where we planted... Super low maintenance, almost NO weeds. Amazing worm action in the soil. No tilling, even in rocky east Tennessee ⚡ The kids helped me start seeds on the porch in April. A sweet little harvest this year and it didn't cost a fortune in lumber or soil as do raised beds! -Sarah

Some things on homemaking… On last night’s recording, the topic of homemaking and reviving the art of it came up and I had some further thoughts. Many think homemaking comes down to cleanliness or having this curated IG or Pinterest looking home. Although these things are nice to strive for, it’s more the idea of what homemaking is rather than what it actually is. It’s an essence you have to your home and being a good steward of it. This can manifest in many different ways. A home that prioritizes homemade nourishing foods, a kitchen that never sleeps with a jar of something fermenting or a loaf of sourdough bread waiting to be cut, herbs hanging from the garden to dry for medicinal use, an intentionally curated bookshelf, a dimly lit atmosphere, a tea kettle going off, a line of clothes drying outside, bone broth simmering on the hearth, beautiful artwork surrounding you, homeschool material in a corner, footprints of a legacy—have it be heirlooms passed down or traces of happy and healthy small children running around. I would consider all of these apart of the art of homemaking because they lie in living a life intentionally and loving what you do. It’s about the spirit of your home rather than how perfectly curated or organized it is. Surround yourself with things that make you happy. Things that help romanticize the mundane and adds sensuality and beauty to your day. It can simply be having your favorite candle lit while you make dinner or using a fancier mason jar as a liquid soap pump while doing dishes. It can be routines that keep you in alignment with who you want to be. It’s different for everyone and comes down to the the flow and family culture they strive for. As women and homemakers, we are the hearth keepers. We bring that warmth, light, and comfort to the home. It starts with what makes us happy and fulfilled because when we fuel our own flames, that flame grows brighter, warmer, and brings comfort to those around us. A curated aesthetic is lovely, but the way those that gather at your home are made to feel and the memories made, that is the real art of homemaking. -Karissa

As Aryans, as White mothers, as European women, we must hold standards of excellence. We must also accept that we might not be able to meet those standards, while still respecting the standard. We mustn't become the fabled, 'fox and the sour grapes', when we can't meet the standard, bashing it and pretending it's not worth having simply because we can't have it. Otherwise we put ourselves in a position of allowing all the filth and depravity into our lives. We'll then find ourselves in an "anything goes, all the time" mentality. Striving to meet the standard counts for something 🤍 -Sarah

I've started playing around with the composition for a new piece about the balance of give and take... life and death. I'd like to have an equal amount of nourishing edible plants/fungi/animals as there will be poisonous, deadly ones.
