A 29-year-old man, identified as Ebikeme Seiye, has been arrested for allegedly r@ping a five-year-old girl, Oyeintari Idonwanbofa, in Bayelsa State.
Seiye, a native of Akede community in Sagbama Local Government Area, was apprehended by operatives of the Bayelsa State Community Safety Corps, Amassoma Cluster, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
The arrest followed a report by the victim’s elder cousin, Tobokeakpo Selekeme, who alerted the authorities to the incident.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the cr!me, claiming he was under the influence of a hard drvg known as Kolos at the time of the incident.
The Community Safety Corps subsequently handed him over to the Amassoma Police Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Meanwhile, the victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

The Borno State Police Command has said five men arrested in Maiduguri while wearing T-shirts bearing the inscription "Tinubu Must Go" were apprehended over the alleged possession of suspected illicit drvgs and conduct capable of causing public disturbance, not their political views.
The command’s spokesperson, Nahum Daso, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, following public reactions to the arrest and prosecution of the suspects.
According to Daso, the suspects were arrested on September 25, 2026, at about 6pm during a routine township patrol around the West End Roundabout area of Maiduguri.
He said police officers allegedly recovered 15 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian h£mp, 100 tablets suspected to be D5, one shisha pot, a pair of scissors and two T-shirts bearing the inscription "Tinubu Must Go" from the suspects.
Daso said the suspects were subjected to preliminary investigations, during which their statements were obtained, before the case was charged to court.
"The attention of the Borno State Police Command has been drawn to the viral reports and widespread public discourse concerning the arrest and subsequent prosecution of five suspects in connection with allegations of inciting disturbance, breach of public peace, thuggery and being in possession of drug substance," the statement read.
The command maintained that the decision to prosecute the suspects followed the preliminary investigation and was intended to allow a competent court to determine the matter.
It also dismissed suggestions that the arrest and prosecution were motivated by the suspects’ political affiliation or views.
"The command wishes to categorically state that the Nigeria Police Force is a professional, non-partisan institution and does not discriminate against persons on the basis of political affiliation or viewpoint," Daso said.
He added that the command remained committed to protecting fundamental human rights, upholding the rule of law, ensuring due process and promoting accountability and transparency in its operations.
The police urged members of the public to rely on verified information and allow the court to determine the case based on the facts and evidence presented.
"The Borno State Police Command remains committed to professionalism, impartiality, accountability, and the protection of lives and property," the statement concluded. | 206 |

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Muhammad Garba Ladan, over the alleged k!lling of his four-month-old daughter, Fatimah Muhammad, in Zirami, Azare.
The incident was reported on Thursday, September 24, 2026, after the child’s mother told police that she had left her daughter asleep but returned to find her unconscious and not breathing.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the woman also reported seeing her husband, Ladan, emerge from the room shortly before she discovered the child’s condition.
The police said the baby was rushed to the General Hospital, Azare, where a doctor confirmed her d£ath and attributed it to strangulation.
Following the report, police arrested the suspect and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s d£ath.
