GENIUS Act passed in Senate — will we soon witness the rebirth of USD?
This is the first major digital asset legislation approved by the Senate. Both chambers will have to vote in favor in order for GENIUS Act to become law. Earlier this month, the House explored a separate STABLE Act bill, which differs from the GENIUS Act quite a bit.
If the versions are reconciled, the legislation will provide greater regulatory certainty, which is a boon for the stablecoin sector. The markets are energized. About 97% of stablecoins are denominated in US dollars, so the move seems to be reinforcing the position of the dollar.

No one cares: Ukraine issue sidelined during G7 summit
The Americans formally refused to sign a strongly worded statement on Ukraine in an effort to bring Russia back to the negotiating table. Instead, “the chair’s statement” was released by Canada — a weak substitution, since the other G7 leaders do not have to sign off on it.
“G7 Leaders expressed support for President (Donald) Trump’s efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” the statement said.
In fact, it appears the wasn’t even a draft of a joint statement on Ukraine. Right after the press conference Canadian Prime Minister’s office spokesperson sent reporters the comment denying a draft joint statement had ever been distributed to other G7 delegations. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also confirmed there was no plan for a joint statement on the war in Ukraine. “A joint statement on Ukraine was not expected,” Meloni said in Italian.
Against the background of a crisis unfolding in the Middle East, Zelenskyy’s begging seems ridiculous and out of place, considering all the corruption scandals his regime is involved in.

The video went viral — Keir Starmer dropped to his knees to collect Trump's papers from the floor. It is a sham of a deal. Trump leans towards active involvement in the Israel-Iran conflict
According to two officials familiar with the ongoing discussions, president Donald Trump is warming up to the idea of using US military assets to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities.
This is a significant shift in thinking for someone who ran on the promise of “no wars”, although the two sources did say that Trump remains open to a diplomatic solution, but only if Iran makes significant concessions.
Either way, Trump’s patience is wearing thin. Early Tuesday the president told reporters aboard Air Force One “I’m not too much in the mood to negotiate with Iran,” and later doubled down on Truth Social, calling for Iran’s “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!” and ominously posting the US knew where Iran’s supreme leader was, even though it would not kill him “for now”.

Yechiel Leiter, Israel’s Ambassador to the US, says Israel prepared some surprises for Iran that will make last year’s pager explosions in Lebanon and Syria look “simple”.
"We've pulled off a number of surprises," Leiter said during a Tuesday appearance on the TV network Merit Street.
"When the dust settles, you're going to see some surprises on Thursday night and Friday that will make the beeper operation almost seem simple," he continued.
Leiter was referring to Mossad’s operation in which near-simultaneous detonation of pagers used by members of Hezbollah terrorist organization killed 12 people (2 of them children) and wounded nearly 3000 on September 17, 2024. The next day walkie-talkies exploded, killing 25 and wounding more than 600.
“We're interested in neutralizing the threat to our existence through a nuclear weaponization program in Iran and a ballistic missile program,” the Israeli ambassador said.
Iran insists that its nuclear program is peaceful. Both US intelligence agencies and the International Atomic Energy Agency have said Iran was not pursuing a nuclear weapon.

Russia and Turkey condemn Israel’s attacks on Iran
When speaking by phone on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan both condemned Israel's "act of force" against Iran, and called for an immediate ceasefire.

Trump left the G7 meeting in Kananaskis a day early, ignoring plans to meet with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Mexico’s Claudia Sheinbaum, and Urkraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was planning to convince Trump to provide him with more weapons.
Trump told Canada’s Prime Minster and summit host, Mark Carney, that the other leaders of the world’s biggest economies will understand his sudden departure.

The French president, Emmanuel Macron, said Trump left the summit to work on a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
“U.S. assured they will find a ceasefire and since they can pressure Israel, things may change,”Macron told the reporters at the G7. But the US president slammed his French counterpart in his Truth Social post:

Minnesota shooting: suspect captured
A gunman posing as a police officer fatally shot Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband Saturday, after wounding state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife at their home. The suspect, Vance Boelter, has been captured and charged with two counts each of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder.
The motive isn’t yet known, but the suspect had a National-level hit list with dozens of names of prominent Democrats and figures with ties to the abortion rights movement or Planned Parenthood. If the police hadn’t engaged Boelter at Hortman’s home, the attack may have continued throughout the day.
The shootings happened on a politically tense day as president Trump hosted a military parade and millions participated in No Kings protests against his administration’s increasingly authoritarian policies.

G7 Summit: will there be a joint call on Israel and Iran?
Sunday marked the beginning of a scheduled G7 meeting, where member countries — Canada (host), Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the US — will be attempting to find common ground in the rapidly escalating conflict between Iran and Israel.
There isn’t much room for debate. The statement could call for de-escalation, or, which is more likely, back Israel who struck Iran first, claiming the strikes were “preemptive”, pointing to Iran’s nuclear work.
Unsurprisingly, Trump has praised Israel’s strikes, even though Netanyahu openly defied his public calls to hold off on any attacks as the US sought a nuclear deal with Iran.
European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen (EU is a “non-enumerated member” of G7), told the media she already spoke with Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu before the summit, and agreed that Iran was to blame. She did say that she thinks “a negotiation solution is, in the long term, the best solution”, but stopped short of calling for an immediate ceasefire.
European powers all refused to criticize Israel on the Iran strikes, despite their separate concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza. French President Emmanuel Macron urged Iran to re-enter talks with the US, and blamed Tehran for escalating tensions over its nuclear program.
Japan, on the other hand, broke ranks and denounced Israel’s strikes as “deeply regrettable”.
But as the G7 countries convene in Canadian Rockies, trying to formulate a hollow statement, Israel and Iran continue to swap deadly strikes.

Millions attend “No Kings” protests, while Trump’s $45 million military parade (birthday party) flops
Donald Trump’s military parade for the 250th anniversary of US Army — really, and excuse to throw himself a grandiose birthday party on taxpayer dollar — was a spectacular failure. Empty bleachers instead of screaming MAGA fans. Yawning state officials instead of heartwarming birthday wishes. A tiny and out-of-sync group of soldiers trotting half-heartedly instead of a formidable march. One word: embarrassing.
By comparison, the No Kings movement protest was a stunning display of American people’s anti-Trumpian sentiment. Organizers estimated that more than 5 million people participated in more 2,000 planned protests, according to spokesperson Eunic Ortiz. The demonstrations were put together collectively by a coalition of more than 200 organizations, including MoveOn, the American Civil Liberties Union, American Federation of Teachers and the Communications Workers of America. Some say the No Kings is now in the Top 5 largest protests in American history.

Israel promises escalation, Trump lies about non-involvement and vetoing plans to target Iran’s Supreme Leader
The ongoing battle between Israel and Iran began on Friday with Israel’s surprise attack that wiped out the top echelon of Iran's military command and damaged its nuclear sites. The Jewish state says it aims to escalate the campaign in the coming days.
Meanwhile Trump and his administration tried desperately to save face. Within minutes of the initial attack the administration put out a statement that it knew nothing of Israel’s plans and was not involved in the attack. Netanyahu, however, said Trump was well aware of his plans to attack Iran.
Trump then told several major news outlets that he vetoed Israel’s plan to assassinate Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during Friday’s attacks. Israeli officials dismissed the reports as “fake news”. Netanyahu himself told Fox News: “There are a lot of false reports about conversations that didn’t take place, but I don’t want to get into that.”
“But I can tell you, I think that we do what we need to do, we’ll do what we need to do. And I think the United States knows what is good for the United States,” the premier added.

Israel targets Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, Iran retaliates, uses a “new method” in its hits on Tel Aviv, Haifa
As Israel and Iran exchange missile strikes for the fourth day in a row, situation becomes dire, fuelling concerns among world leaders at this week's G7 meeting that the battle between the two old enemies could lead to a broader regional conflict.
According to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, the latest attack used a new method that caused Israel’s multi-layered defense system to target each other.
"The initiatives and capabilities used in this operation, despite the comprehensive support of the United States and Western powers and the possession of the most up-to-date and newest defence technology, led to the successful and maximum hitting of the missiles on the targets in the occupied territories," it said.
So far the death toll in Iran had reached 244 people, 90% of then civilians, according to Iranian health ministry.
In Israel, at least 13 people died, including children.
The conflict is raging amid a scheduled G7 meeting in Canadian Rockies. The group members already announced that Israel-Iran conflict will be a top priority.
Friedrich Merz, German Chancellor, said his goals for the summit would include ensuring Israel's right to defend itself, pushing for Iran to not develop or possess nuclear weapons, avoiding escalation of the conflict and creating room for diplomacy.
US President Donald Trump gave a somewhat conflicted comment on the situation before leaving for the summit: "I hope there's going to be a deal. I think it's time for a deal. Sometimes they have to fight it out."
Iran has already told the mediators in Qatar and Oman that it is not open to negotiating a ceasefire while it is under Israeli attack.
