Tafsir of the Quran Consider a man who is well-versed in the Arabic language and its various sciences. He opens the Quran & attempts to grasp Surah Feel He glances at the first verse الم تر كيف فعل ربك بأصحاب الفيل He then tries to understand who is being addressed, [i.e. you] is it the Messenger ﷺ ? Who are the Ashab al-feel? Is there any other reference to this story in the Quran? He discovers that there was an occurrence documented from the days of the companions concerning a historic event that occurred in Makkah involving an army of elephants How can he determine whether these reports are acceptable/authentic enough to quote for the verse? He then asks why they came to attack Makkah? and what's its significance to the Message of Islam ? When was this chapter revealed? [Before or Post Migration] Why does the verse refer to 'Kayfa' [How]? Why not 'Maa' [What]? So he explores the earliest language sources [esp. classcial poetry] to determine the distinction between the two. He then wonders why it begins with the question "A'a [Did]?" Is there a response to this, or is it rhetorical? How is the Prophet ﷺ referred to as 'Tara' [You see/saw] while he wasn't present, according to reports? Was this a literal sight of the eyes, or does it have another figurative meaning? Why is the word Raab used here instead of Allah? What's the meaning of the words: 1. Baa [Preposition] 2. Fa'ala, not Amila. 3. Ashaab, not Ahl. 4. Al-feel, not Afyaal. Why Lam and not Maa? And what effect does it have on Tara? What's the grammatical status of each of these words? This is just one example of the arguments that tafsir books will engage in trying to grasp a verse as thoroughly as possible using all sciences. Clearly, the level of discussion varies from verse to verse and from scholar to scholar in their works.

#Taraweeh #20 Some people are physically chained, whereas others are chained by their desires. The only thing that frees from desires is the constant reminder of the fleeting nature of this life. So, prepare for the account in front of Allah before it's too late. Surah Yasin

#Taraweeh #19 Life's journey is fraught with difficulties for everyone esp the Muslim: 1. confronting deviant beliefs. 2. Social disorder. 3. corrupt wealthy / influential just to name a few. Allah does not forget the arduous efforts of people for his sake. Surah Ankaboot

Quranic Studies in Madaris It is nice to find a teacher who is passionate about teaching the Quran and assisting students in understanding tafseer books. Unfortunately, it is nearly customary in many madrassas to teach Quran translation in a copy-paste approach. This is when the teacher translates each word, adding some sabab Nuzool [background information] until the surah is finished. Although this method will assist the learner grasp what each chapter is about, it does not fully utilise the student's ability to see the verses in light of the Arabic language and the extensive range of words and expressions present in the Quran. A clear contrast must be made between a student of knowledge who has Arabic studies and someone who does not. To teach the Quran, teachers must : 1. gauge their students' Arabic level and break down each verse to explore the many expressions and word forms given. 2. occasionally go into elaborate tafseer conversations regarding select vereses This will take away fears about picking up those books and simplify advanced discussions. 3. Demonstrate to the student the importance of Arabic grammar and balagha in specific words and portions. This will assist the student understand the academic rigour required for studying the Quran. 4. Infuse passion into the Lessons by providing historical context and possible applications in the present day. 5. Demonstrate how certain verses can be interpreted/applied in various ways based on the meaning of the word, expression, and Qirat with references. 6. Finally, identify the problematic interpretations given in some texts and how to address them. These are only a few ideas that sprang to mind & I am sure you all have more Not all of them can be implemented right away but teachers should try to include them into their Classes

Irresponsible celebs and fans. It's quite disheartening to watch how people, whether in the spotlight of society or just your typical Facebook/YouTube user, can say and share words and videos that have such a negative impact on the public. The worst problem is that many people who share false information about others are unaware that in many cases they are creating a style or trend that obtains so much traction that others join the bandwagon and say, "Wait a minute, this must be legit stuff, I saw it on Facebook Twitter...." Imagine that the careless messages we send cause harm to others; how will we respond to Allah? The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, stated that a person can say a word without realising the gravity of the situation, which will land him in the pits of Jahannum. [Tirmidhi] Just some advise I received when giving speeches to people, which I believe also relates to social media: 1. Will you be considered sinful for stating this? 2. Are you saying this to elevate oneself in the eyes of others? 3. What are the long-term consequences of stating it?

#Taraweeh #18 The callers to Allah were never praised for winning a debate or humiliating their opponents. The Most Merciful One praises those who: 1. Walk with Humility 2. Avoid engaging with the ignorant 3. Spend nights praying to Him 4. Spend moderately. Surah Furqan

Translating the Quran is probably the most challenging thing I've experienced for the following reasons: 1. The sequencing of words in the Quran is very particular to that Surah 2. Translations r never 100% representations, especially the Quran 3. Many verses contain varying perspectives resulting in layers of translations. 4. Translation and knowledge of ARabic grammar peculiarities is essential. 5. Many verses in the Quran contain unprecented Arabic terms that Arabs have never used. 6. Tafsir in a translation is usually like salt in a dish. 7. In most cases, translation to flow requires additional words to accurately convey the sequence of words for the target audience 8. You must have advanced experience with the science of Balagha 9. Your attempt at translation is simply that 10. Keep the different Qirat in mind

#Taraweeh #15 Preserve your iman in any way you can, humble yourself no matter how much wealth Allah has bestowed upon you, trust in Allah even when events do not make sense, and be just in your treatment of those under your care. Surah Kahf

#Taraweeh #13 Allah's words provide guidance. It will remain unchanged regardless of how much falsehood is spread by ppl. Similar to the waste that floats on floodwaters & the scum produced when gold is melted. But only Allah's guidance will remain in the end Surah ra'd

#Taraweeh #12 Allah has dominance over everything, from the natural world to our daily life. Even if an event does not go as planned, it does not mean you lost or others won. You will be successful if you obey Allah in both your private and public lives. Surah Yusuf

#Taraweeh #10 It's strange how people will believe in the most nonsensical beliefs while dismissing the Quran as tales. If only, alone, signs served as guides, Firoun's genocide would've been averted. Arrogance drove him to self-destruction & it was too late to repent Surah Yunus
