FASTING WITH UNDERSTANDING 🍽️🙏🏾🔥
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen… to loose the chains of wickedness… to undo heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free?” – Isaiah 58:6 (NKJV)
Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline, but without understanding, it can become a mere religious routine.🤷🏽♂️ Many believers fast, thinking it will make God respond faster, move His hand, or increase His willingness. But Scripture shows us something deeper:
God is already willing.✅
Fasting does not change God—it changes you.🫵🏽 God has already made full provision for us in Christ.✝️
The Bible says in 2 Peter 1:3 (NIV).. that “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness…” 🙌🏽
This means fasting is not about getting God to give—it is about positioning yourself to receive and walk in what has already been given.👌🏽
When you fast, you deliberately quiet the demands of the flesh so your spirit can become more dominant.🔥 The flesh constantly craves comfort, food, distraction, and control, but the spirit thrives on communion with God.🥹❤️
“For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh…” – Galatians 5:17 (NKJV)
Fasting weakens the voice of the flesh and strengthens your sensitivity to the Spirit. It sharpens your discernment, aligns your desires with God’s will, and increases your awareness of His presence.🔥
Jesus Himself showed us the true posture of fasting—not as a public display, but as a private devotion unto God:🙏🏽
“But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting…” – Matthew 6:17–18 (NKJV)
Fasting is not about impressing people or earning spiritual points—it is about intimacy with the Father. 🫂🥰
In Isaiah 58, God reveals the kind of fasting that produces results. It is not just abstinence from food, but a life aligned with God’s heart—expressed in righteousness, justice, and compassion.
“Then your light shall break forth like the morning, your healing shall spring forth speedily…” – Isaiah 58:8 (NKJV)
When fasting is done with understanding:
• Your spiritual clarity increases (Hebrews 5:14)
• Your strength is renewed (Isaiah 40:31)
• Your direction becomes clearer (Psalm 25:9)
• Your intimacy with God deepens (James 4:8)
Fasting is ultimately about feeding on God instead of the flesh. It is shifting your dependency from the natural to the spiritual. It is saying, “Lord, You are my source, my satisfaction, and my strength.”
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” – Matthew 4:4 (NKJV)
As you fast, focus less on what you are giving up and more on what you are gaining—greater sensitivity, deeper fellowship, and a stronger manifestation of Christ in you.✝️🔥
