Uit een onlangs gepubliceerd onderzoek blijkt dat papieren bekers net zo giftig kunnen zijn als conventionele plastic bekers als ze in onze natuurlijke omgeving terechtkomen.
Schijnbaar milieuvriendelijke papieren bekertjes zijn bedekt met een dun laagje plastic om te voorkomen dat de inhoud in het papier sijpelt, en deze voering kan giftige stoffen afgeven. Vooral als er warme dranken gedronken worden.
“Er lekken chemicaliën uit deze materialen”, zegt hoofdauteur Bethanie Carney Almroth, universitair hoofddocent milieuwetenschappen aan de Universiteit van Göteborg in Zweden.
Als je op je werk dagelijks koffie drinkt, gebruik dan liever porselein of een BPA vrije beker. Neem desnoods je eigen koffie tas of beker mee.
