"NHS worker sent patient medical record screenshot to partner, after accessing up to 200 individual patient records without permission"
"Correspondence (revealed by FOI) suggests patient info shared and patient contacted using phone number obtained from hospital records... worker received only a police caution"
We’re often told there’s "nothing to fear if we have nothing to hide" when the state collects more and more of our personal data.
But that’s nonsense, isn’t it?
The problem isn’t whether *we* have something to hide.
It’s what happens when other people get access to our private information - and misuse it.

ONE LOGIN: Whistleblowers say it's not secure - Alan Miller
The more government functions that depend on one identity and access system, the greater the consequences if that system is compromised, misused or fails
Stronger oversight, transparency and safeguards must be in place before One Login is allowed to expand any further

One Login. GOV UK App. GOV UK Wallet. Digital driving licence.
They're different systems with different purposes - but connect them together and they could create much of the infrastructure for a far more powerful digital identity system.
That's why One Login needs proper scrutiny NOW - not AFTER millions more people have been steered into it.

A digital driving licence on your phone is not the same thing as a compulsory national Digital ID
However, the Government is connecting digital credentials, the GOV UK Wallet and the One Login app - and something much bigger is starting to take shape
The question isn't just what each part does TODAY - it's what the combined system could become TOMORROW
We must not let these systems evolve into Digital ID in all but name, through expansion, function creep or the loss of offline alternatives
The surest way to stop One Login becoming the only way to interact with the state is to refuse to let it become the default
Wherever a genuine alternative exists, use it - and demand that government protects that choice in law

Andy Burnham announced the official Digital ID scheme would be scrapped after millions saw the danger in "Digital Papers Please"
At the same time, related platform One Login has quietly expanded across 200+ government services - with more planned
We need an immediate freeze on One Login pending independent National Audit Office review - no further rollout or expansion without safeguards and Parliamentary oversight

Action-takers influence things
Together supporters campaigned up and down the UK against the national Digital ID proposal
Cancelling the official scheme is only the first step
Now, we must ensure connected systems such as One Login, the GOV UK App and GOV UK Wallet cannot evolve into Digital ID in all but name through expansion, function creep or the erosion of offline alternatives

Digital ID "wasn't in our manifesto"
No, it wasn't was it, Lucy Powell?!
Nor was allowing One Login, the GOV UK App and Government Wallet to become Digital ID in all but name through expansion, function creep or the erosion of offline alternatives
We must keep pushing #together

If you’re interested in censorship-resistant social media, take a look at Nostr.
It’s an open protocol rather than a company-owned platform. Your identity belongs to you, posts are cryptographically signed, and they can be published through multiple independent servers (“relays”). If one relay bans you or disappears, you can switch to others without losing your identity or audience.
It’s a simple idea with potentially huge implications for online freedom: https://nostr.how/en/get-started

We're told we shouldn't fear surveillance tech if we've "nothing to hide" - but what about those in power with something to abuse?
